I've commented on other threads but thought I'd make my own now based on my experience. I'm trying to get myself a Submariner (non-date and/or Hulk) at list from an AD and after speaking with a few within an hours drive from home, I've got the following responses below.

AD 1 - We may keep onto the warranty card for 6 months
- We will not put you on the list for a Hulk
- Why are you not trying an AD closer to home
AD 2 - We can only put you onto one list
AD 3 - We can put you on the lists but returning customers take priority when watches are offered
AD 4 - Same as above
AD 5 - Put you on one list only and returning customers get priority

Granted there have also been a few AD's that have put me onto as many lists as I want with no questions asked. I've already been put onto the lists at both local AD's that I have brought from but I'm trying to get a watch asap due to the rumoured price hike.
AD's really are being selective on who goes onto their lists, I'll more than likely be a returning customer as well but they seem to be turning me away over the phone. Don't know if the experience would be any different if I went in person.

That's a shame but I guess it mirror's what I have experienced too. It's tricky to get watches you want without buying other watches you don't want at times.

Hopefully my local AD's won't treat me the same since I've brought from them already. I just wish I got the non-date when I was first shown one last year

Dave, mind sharing the AD's that you were told with me please? I live in Birmingham and I'm hoping to be on the list of all AD's within a 40 miles distance. As I said I've brought from WoS on New Street and from Goldsmiths in the Bull Ring so was hoping one of those shops could "deliver the goods for me"

And sadly I'm only looking to buy from an AD as well.

Got the call for a non date Sub from one of the AD's that I called, off to pick it up tomorrow. It's a fairly local AD too. Not bad going to be honest, only been a matter of weeks and before the potential/rumoured price hike. The only clause has been that I pay and pick it up within 48 hours.
Now need to get my hands onto an Hulk.

I agree, you do need to be spending big bucks with AD's to get onto the other lists for the watches in demand. A friend of mine who buys from one of the AD's in Birmingham was advised that he was "bumped" up the Daytona list after his last purchase (black & gold GMT). This is now 2 purchases from Goldsmiths, lets see how this plays out.

On the plus note, I picked up my non date Sub last night. All tags kept on the watch, warranty card given to me, the plastic surround for the bezel and I also got the plastic case the watch is delivered in, no quibbles at all. Quite pleased with that.

I'd imagine someone will call custard on that story, but I wouldn't be surprised either if that was the case! I'm sure the chap at WoS told me he had 2 Batman's in the safe when my wife picked up her lady date. I'm kicking myself for not asking him to repeat what he said.

The rose gold Daytona's don't command a premium, infact I think you could even get some discount on them. It's the SS Daytona's that are going for silly money. I'd love to be in the position where I have the choice of keeping it or selling it on, maybe one day!

A bump to the thread regarding AD's. I had one of the more hostile AD's call me yesterday if I was still interested in being kept on their waiting list for a watch. Asked again why am I on their list and not somewhere closer to home, and was told that they would keep the warranty card for 12 months too.

I've managed to see and actually try on a Hulk finally! After being in Central London and asking to know the waiting lists, I was surprised to find out that a few places have now closed the list for the Hulk.
Reading other watch forum's there is speculation that it will be discontinued soon, maybe that's causing abit of hype for them?

The AD which showed me the Hulk also said that they had received a black faced Daytona which was collected the day before, so there are watches out there!

Time for a great update!
I had a call from Sam at George Pragnell's a few weeks back informing me that they had a black Sub date with my name on it. I went down later that afternoon and there must have been a mix up of some sort as there was a non date sub in their safe for me. With the rumours of a price rise I thought I'll buy it anyway as it was there in front of me.
Well it looks like buying it has worked out for me, as I had a voicemail from Sam saying that they had unexpectedly got a Hulk delivered and it had been kept aside for me! I've now got the Hulk next to my BLNR and got to admit that buying watches does get you other watches as well that you want!

It's taken me less than 2 months to get the Hulk after I expressed interest in it. Not bad for a watch that has closed waiting lists in London and over 18 months locally!

Time for me to sell the additional non date Sub now. I'll still keep hold of my first one as I've got some variety then.

I was very lucky with my Hulk for sure. I plan on using that AD as my go to place now, even though they are about a 45 minute drive for me.

My two local AD’s are more than likely going to loose my business. A shame but whenever I go in I seem to get “fobbed off” with their replies to me, even though I am on certain waiting lists for watches & have brought from both before.

The poster who works for an AD and mentioned SS Daytona’s, it is sort of true and I understand that.
Another forum I read a known person to an AD got a SS Daytona even though he wasn’t on a waiting list and sold it for a large profit within 24 hours. Perks of being a VIP customer who spends several thousands.

To anyone waiting on a watch, good luck!

Thread revival indeed!

Regarding the BLNR, to my knowledge it is not officially discontinued by Rolex therefore it's still in production if you ask me. Everything else is just the rumor mill working away.

In terms of getting an LV, waiting game sadly unless your prepared to buy other watches that you don't want to be bumped up their lists. I was immensely lucky and I am aware of that.
A friend got his from a local AD after waiting 1.5 years and he has spent about 25k with them over the years.

My recommendation, don't join multiple lists at shops owned by the Arum Group which I believe are WoS, Goldsmiths & Fraser Hart. An independent dealer may be your best bet.
An AD in Maastricht told me a few months ago that they have about a 2 year wait, though their RRP is higher than the UK and also want a thousand euros as a deposit. The Rolex Boutique in Zurich seems to churn out SS watches quite quickly but you cannot get onto a list without visiting them in person.

Good luck with your hunt, regularly popping in to see your AD seems to help going off other threads and just having a general chit chat, with a gentle reminder of where you are on the list.

This would be a good time for an update for me as well. In terms of my watch collection I sold my last SubC ND last year as it was simply never worn. I am on the list for a 5167A and a 5711 though my AD knows that these are for milestone birthdays and I do not expect to receive one for quite a while.

I am also working in Brussels and regularly travel across mainland Europe on weekends, visiting AD's when possible. This includes France, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and even Schiphol airport a few times. I still have not come across a single desirable SS in a window and when I ask in the shop they all give the same answer, closed waiting lists apart from the AD in Maastricht as mentioned before.

There are quite a few grey dealers in Maastricht and every desirable Rolex watch is basically available from them there and then, one shop had 5 LVC's and CHNR's in the window when I visited last summer.

In terms of what next for my watch collection, as mentioned above I'm hoping to get a 5167A and a 5711 to my collection in the next few years, at this point the LV may be sold off as it's a lot to have in watches, and I would like to get a JLC ultra thin watch and finally a jubilee bracelet for my BLNR.
