Rolex smashed glass
Discussion
My wife dropped her Datejust last night (mans size) and the glass smashed. I have been googling and the replacement costs vary wildly between around £150 and a mandatory full service. I intend taking it to an AD unless anyone has any recommendations. Any ideas of cost? Can an AD replace it on site? I live in Epsom, Surrey. Thanks
They called my wife today and said it needed new hands, face, glass and internal damage repaired. She dropped it from waist height onto a tiled floor. It did actually stop ticking but I was just expecting a glass and a service. I think a claim on the house insurance will be forthcoming.
I got the watch back yesterday and the breakdown is as follows:
Full Service: £416.67
Dial including hands: £1680.77
Glass: £113.51
Crown: £35.14
Total:£2246.09
VAT:£449.21
Invoice total: £2695.30
The majority of the cost is the dial which has diamonds in. On the invoice it says "Old dial returned herewith" and it wasn't so I said I wanted it. I would like to see it for the damage and also because it has some inherent value because of the diamonds. The AD tried to call Rolex and of course had no answer while I was there, so they said they would call me back when they got through. They didn't. This is going to be a pain...
