Looking for a little bit of advice if that is ok.

I dropped a watch in with a supposedly reputably jewellery shop to be repaired back at the beginning of March. I hadn't heard anything for a while so I sent my mother in to enquire a couple of weeks ago and they informed her that the watch had come back after being repaired but a woman had come in to the shop on that day and stolen it from behind the counter while the attendant was with another customer. They had CCTV of her, police are investigating and they are claiming on their insurance and I should be receiving a new watch in replacement.

I searched online and found an article which stated that the theft occurred on the 9th April but we where not informed until the middle of May when we enquired about how the repairs where going. Latest update as of today is that it is still on going with their insurers and we should have an update soon.

I am not particularly happy with them not informing us immediately after it happened and also in the time it is taking to get either replacement or compensation.

Would you be patient or be busy filling out the online small claims form? Thanks

Thanks I'll get cracking on a letter.

It was a 2012 non date ceramic Submariner 114060, I paid 5k for it back then but think it is 5450 or something now.

What a nightmare.

Does it have special sentimental value too ? My omega was a 50th from my wife and a simple replacement would not be enough, I'd want something else, especially as they seemed to have tried to hide it.

Looks like they were trying to get a replacement before you noticed.
Fortunately not just one I treated myself with but was one of the first of the new ceramic non dates to be released. I've been wearing my late father's 1960s GMT Master while it has been in for repair and I would be absolutely livid if it had been this one.

I would of expected them to either replace the watch or offer you the equivalent in cash straight away, it is their problem not yours so they should be the party waiting for the insurance to pay out not you.
This is my thoughts too but my mum has used them for years and doesn't seem to want to offend them but my patience is running out.

Thanks for the advice.

I used them this time as my mum was dropping of her Cartier to get fixed she said they where good and their watch repairer was an old chap who used to work for Rolex apparently. It’s 5/6 years old and I had no plans on selling it so thought why not but lesson learned.

Anyhow I called them they apparently do have shoplifting insurance and waiting for a response on the claim. I told them they’ll be receiving a letter shortly on when I expect this issue to be resolved by or I’ll be taking it to the small claims court.

Thanks again.

Yeah I do agree with that and the serial number is visible on the inner bezel surround of the newer Rolexes so easier to spot.

Anyhow they are saying I am getting a new one as replacement so will keep you posted if they manage to source one.

Little update for you. After 6 months of been told lots of different stories from waiting for the insurance money to then him having one on order with his friends wife's brother who his MD for Rolex UK that is coming in later this month, then 2 more weeks then just one more week... I finally had enough and asked for the full RRP of the watch so I could source one myself. First cheque bounced so then had to threaten him with small claims court again and finally the re-issued cheque cleared the other day.

Put a deposit down yesterday with an AD and been told 6 months hopefully sooner given my predicament, just hope there isn't a price rise in the new year as will be a bit out of pocket but just glad its over.

Nightmare.

Anyhow if you offered a 2012 Rolex 114060 Non-Date Submariner Ref No G781335 - its stolen.

Bloody hell.

Out of interest, if I'm offered such a watch, where is the serial number that is mentioned?
Pretty obvious on this one. Inside ring where ROLEX is written around the face at 6 o’clock the Ref Number is engraved. Same for most the new ceramic Rolex’s. Older ones you have to take the strap off.

Wow, what a debacle. You were very patient. Hopefully your new watch will arrive in good time.
Too patient really. I should have demanded the money in April I would have probably had the watch by now. Lesson learnt.

Thanks for the heads up. So an extra £273. I will ask them for the extra if the price rise goes ahead or publicise their company name and write a few reviews of my experience.

Put down 20% deposit so far.

Final update all been well. Got the call this morning to say they had a ‘cancellation’ and my name was next on the waiting list, less than 2 month wait. Picked it up an hour later. Happy days. This one won’t be going anywhere near a independent jeweller.

Thanks for the advice got there in the end.
