I get the impression Tags are frowned upon round these parts , but I have always wanted one, the criteria is that it has the red and green logo, thats what I have always had in my minds eye.

They are quite as expensive as I imagined, the F1 models at about £1000, I could spend more but I dont want to, I am not a watch aficionado, its just a bucket list thing.

The other option is an Omega Seamaster, a vintage type but feel thats a bit of a minefield so a new Tag seems the easiest solution.

Any pitfalls ? apart from it not being much to shout about on here biggrin

Cool, seems like they arent quite as derided as I thought, to be honest, its been a thing so long I dont care. I bought a replica off someone years ago and always vowed to buy the real thing one day.

I wore it for years, got a Citizen and it then lived in my fish tank for ages, my dad decided he fancied it and wore it for ages, then gave it my youngest, I think its somewhere in his bedroom still but hasnt been seen for a while, it didnt have the red/green logo and thats what I have always fancied.

Birthday coming up so will go shopping.

It is TAG Heuer Mark. Referring to a TAG Heuer as a 'Tag' makes me cringe.

With regards to quality: it certainly doesnt appear to be as good as it once was, but most of the talk of their being 'rubbish' is just hot air / snobbery / ignorance.

I bought a TAG Heuer 4000 bi-colour automatic new in 1991, in preference to an Omega Seamaster, which it bettered in every way. I wish that Id paid a bit more for a non-date Submariner, but it was too large for my then-youthful and skinny wrist.
Noted, I need to learn how to pronounce the Heuer bit though, always sounds like Geordie talking about a prostitute when I say it !

My contact came up with a couple but one has a red face which is a bit garish, the other one has a black face which I like but it has a black bezel.

No prices mentioned, not in a rush, want to get the right one.

Am guessing the F1 range is quartz ?

Not all of them, some use the Calibre 5 or Calibre 16 Chronograph Automatic movement.

I need to do some research !

Nothing wrong with a Tag! My wife bought me a Monza when we got married in 2005.

That is really nice.

Getting a bit closer, probably this or the black version,

https://www.tagheuer.com/en-gb/watches/tag-heuer-f...

£1050

Have seen them cheaper, like here

https://www.thewatchsource.co.uk/Tag-Heuer/waz1118...

https://www.watchobsession.co.uk/products/tag-heue...

https://paulgranelli.co.uk/watches/tag-heuer-formu...

£200 or so cheaper, are those trusted websites, dont want to pay £200 less and find its a very expensive fake or doesnt turn up.

Decided on a plain one, i.e, not Chronograph type as got one and never really worked out what it was for and prefer the cleaner look.

Don't rule out your local AD, there will be quite a bit of competition on your local high street to sell TAG's and I'd be seeing what deal could be done face to face, as a guide I got just over 20% off a £1350 quartz TAG last year. wink
If paying for it in full I'd be aiming at £850 or walking to the next dealer up the street....if the onliners can sell at that, the bricks and mortar shops can too. scratchchin
Will have a look round locally, my sons mates dad owns a local jewelers but they are more high end and second hand, the had some TAG stuff but it was more than I wanted to pay and fancier than I want.

Live in Wilmslow so no shortage of jewelers, will have a wander in over the weekend and see what they can do, Paul Granellis is on my way to work in Bramhall so could drop in there in person as well.

May as well go for £200 off as buying cash, a decent chunk and drops it below the psychological thousand quid barrier, we arent all multiple watch owners.

Looked at Second Hand but not paying £600 quid for a three year old SH example when a new one is £250 more.

This isn't an attack on your choice, but perhaps something to think about! The quartz models incorporate a reasonably cheap movement e.g. a Swiss Ronda movement for £10-20. As such, that means you're paying £830 (with your discount) for the rest of the watch. At these prices, you could get a better automatic watch from a different manufacture. Alternatively, perhaps look at TAG Heuer F1 automatic watches instead, which have Swiss ETA automatic movements beating within?

The cheapest automatic Formula One is £1,450 retail. If you obtain 20% discount, that's £1,160. Alternatively, most places now offer 0% interest on purchases over 12-60 months.

If it was me, my money would be going on an automatic. Even with discount, £850 is a lot for a quartz watch.
Yeah, am aware of that, mentioned earlier on its very much a bucket list purchase, an unscratched itch from years ago when I wanted a Tag having had a fake one, always said I would get the real thing and thats the desire, as long as it works as a watch then thats fine with me and I am fine with a Quartz, also it has to have the Red and Green logo and I think its only the cheaper F1's that still have it.

Pearls before swine and all that.

I have found myself looking at watches in a different light, never been all that fussed but I have to do this, it could be a sixteen grand top of the range job and it wouldn't scratch the itch.

After that, who knows, I have a thing for vintage Omega Seamasters, the plainer the better.

Well, its on its way, got it for £770 from Chronext, I did ask on another thread if they are alright but did some googling and they have shops so should be ok, been around a while.

Can always get an automatic or whatever but this particular itch needs to be scratched, wife wanted to get me one for my fiftieth but its still 18 months or more off.

Wanted the Red and Green Logo, I like the watch, it fit in the budget and it tells the time.

I am happy with Quartz, not really seeing what advantage an Automatic gives me in that they are less accurate and need more attention in terms of servicing ?

Its my first posh(ish) watch

A bit more "watchy" biggrin

Love it, I know what you mean but I am a bit of a pleb when it comes to fine timepieces.

Also, like anything in life it depends on your viewpoint, some will see "flash bd" watch (if they notice at all) or say its probably a fake etc, come on here and "Oh dear, its a quartz" like its a cracker novelty.

My kids went to a nice school, got some sniffiness off some about that, then at the other end, speak to people with kids at even more expensive schools "Oh, they go there, never mind" sort of thing.

Im happy with it, wife has already said it looks too big (its 41mm)

You've bought the same watch that I bought just over two years ago, for pretty much exactly the same reasons! One day I'll get around to getting a link taken out of the strap so it's not loose.

I need to stop looking at this section though, I keep going virtual shopping....
Buy this,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16pcs-Watch-Repair-Tool...tongue outf:0

Do it yourself with a Youtube video, like this,

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFXTDwimRvc

Its so easy, dont need to take it in, took me five mins.

Brand died for me around 1999. Just seemed that every IT geek that picked up some extra hours working on the millennium bug went out and bought a TAG. 20 years on it still has the feel of a watch bought by someone that’s given zero thought to it (despite being a possibly good thing). BMW M3 of watches.
I work in IT, drive a BMW and now have a TAG, not claiming to be special though, given it a lot of thought as wanted one for years but been busy raising three kids, only me earning for years but now I can afford to treat myself.

I think the problem is people see stuff and assume it’s not been thought about and was acquired easily, on a whim, all those fancy cars on leases, the”executive” homes but most stuff doesn’t happen like that, there is usually a lot of effort behind the scenes.

I pay out more each month on uni stuff for the kids than this watch cost, but I got something for me, something I have had my eye on since I was 20, I am just not that discerning !

But I am enjoying my new watch, it makes me happy, box ticked, it’s a nice shiny thing.

I didn’t get any of the Y2K action as was at the Police, so did the work but didn’t have the massive money, but had a 5 year old, three year old and a baby, my mate did, he bought a Fiat Coupe Turbo cash.

Was funny the other day, almost masonic, was in a meeting with a project manager and he was wearing a jumper, he clocked my watch and next thing I know there is a shiny Tag on display from under the jumper biggrin

Nothing was said, just low end posh watch posturing !

Jesus, is that the world I have bought into smile

Is there a watch league, I think I must be in the Cats protection league equivalent.

Well, my Tag has been usurped in favour of an Apple watch most of the time.

I joined the FB TAG group when looking and its quite funny, Photos of TAG's are usually in front of the steering wheel of a fancy German car, someone asked why this is, we all know why, its cock waving, but loads more pictures came in and one was telling the poster to shut up and said Heres a photo of mine, in front of "the Range", picture of a white and black comprehensively Essex styled L322, still cringing now.
