Hi,
Firstly Happy New Year to you all and may you have great health and wealth in 2019
New to the forum but been lurking here for a couple of years, just decided to contribute now as I need some advice / help
I am looking for a 21st Anniversary watch present for myself. Budget is max £10k before any discounts
Decided to look at Rolex as not really had a look since about 10 years ago , and omg what is happening to waiting times, warranty card retention’s, and prices of used ones. I like the Sea Deweller, Daytona , Skydeweller, Submariner Hulk etc
Will the mad prices / waiting times continue or will the bubble burst like it dies in house prices?

Secondly I am happy to wait for a Rolex if you think prices will stay high etc., plus it gives me time to save up some more money , as it looks I will be buying an interim watch until I get a nice Rolex I want

But what do I buy now?
I like a bigger, 42mm min prefer 44mm upwards size watches, around up to £3k , after any discount . Tempted by .the Tudor range but how is residuals as I may need to trade it in / sell it once a nice Rolex becomes available . I do not want to find a £3k watch is worth £1k after say 3-5 years. Happy to lose a bit of cash say £500-600 on what I paid . The watch will not be a daily, more a nice occasion watch or going out watch . The £3K is not a hard fixed price as I would go up to £4K ish for the right watch . I would prefer new but would look at used etc

So far I have looked at
Tudor Range lovely watches
Breitling Superocean II 46 , lovely clean design
Omega limited edition 45th anniversary of the last man on th moon
Cheaper Rolex ( I think it was Around £4K , sorry I can’t remember the name, but it had a lovely pinky puarple dial )
Hamilton watches , nice designs and relatively cheap

Any advice , commmets would be great as I really do not know too much about watches in detail, only what I like the look of etc

Thanks in advance
Sid

Thais for the response and advice . I have been to a 3 dealers in my area (Aberdeen) and all we’re great. They let me try in heaps of watches , hence my shortlist.
Totally agree that looking at a watch in the “flesh” is totally different to a brochure / website . Classic example is the Breitling Superocean Heritage II 46. So much nice in real life than any brochure . It was stunning , simple but so nice
I think I will wait and see what omega release for the 50th anniversary of the moon landing
Might look at chrono 24 for some inspiration
What kind of discount have people had on
Omega limited edition moon watches
Breitling Superoceans
Tudor Range
Hamilton
Thanks for answering my questions much appreciated

On a balance of risk vs potential profit I'd personally suggest a £10k Lotus Esprit might be a better investment.
I already a have a nice Mistsubishi Evo VI tucked away in the garage . I bought it new 20 years ago and only done 30,000 miles in it. But I use it in summer and garage it in winter.

Not sure if the bubble will burst anytime soon...

I was in Hong Kong last month and a pre owned SS Ceramic Daytona could be had for £15k, then in the space of 3 weeks it had jumped up to £17k. It's nuts but if people are prepared to pay for it more power to them. In the UK, Watchfinder has a white faced SS Ceramic Daytona for £20k!

Having put my name on the list on a Daytona at my local AD, will just wait and see if I get the call for one. The same AD in question did call me to offer a Hulk in Aug 2017 literally 3 weeks after putting my name do for one so it's possible to acquire SS Rolex for list price.
So true and so me
After having looked at the Daytona I am not a fan as it is to small and has no date . I think I prefer some of the Tudors.
But I do like the Hulk (but only because it is a green Rolex) and the Sea Deweler with the Blue / Black dial.

Might buy something cheaper and put my name down on a Rolex , might get lucky and get one

Should you get one? Yes, if you have the cash and you like one. There are many far more imaginative choices out there for your pennies, but none as recognisable to Joe public.
As a watch novice what other watches are worth a look. Not worried what Joe Public think as long as watch is quality and can be handed to my children in the future or sold if need be and still be worth something

I am more baffled now as I can not understand why anybody would pay more for a Stainless Steel Daytona over a Gold / Silver one. World has gone mad
I have narrowed my Rolex choices to
Submariner Hulk as I love Green and it is my daughters favourite colour and it would make a nice hand me down tp her
Sea Dweller D Blue (Blue/Black ) Dial as it is 43mm and I like that size.

Now the difficult part getting a hold of one.
So if anyone can help and put me in touch with a dealer who can deliver within 5 years that would be ace as it would be nice to get one for my 25th Wedding Anniversary
Willing to travel to Europe if need be

Some great points being made and a lot of things that I had not considered.
Here is my experience
Went to our local AD and was very well treated and was shown several watches that fitted my budget . Explained I would like a ROLEX and they were very open
Sub with date or black GMT II within a few months
Hulk Probably within 1 year to 18 months
GMT pepsi 2 years or so
Daytona forget about it as they are simply not getting enough
So I have decided to buy a nice watch until my preferred Rolex arrives. Tudor GMT or Chrono

My cousin enquired on the phone to his local Ad and within 10 days was offered a
Yachtmaster II
Sub with Date
GMT II
He bought the GMT II

My persona thoughts after speaking to our AD is that they run a business and as such are looking for repeat business , hence why I will buy a Tudor form them. This will also help me get a more desirable model quicker
After all if you were an AD who would you sell
Someone who wants a Rolex is unlikely to buy again
Someone who buys watches and makes it know he wants another one

As for the bubble? I am not sure some of these watches actually sell
Currently as of today there are only 9 Submariner Hulk's for sale from 2019
However there are 95 S/Steel Daytonas for sale form 2019, does not sound like there is a supply issue as within 1 month 95 are for sale so how many were supplied ?
I think that prices will soften but used Rolexes will fetch more than list for the desirable models for a bit longer until a recession occurs and people need the cash

Me I will be very happy to own a nice Tudor Chrono daily wearer plus either a Hulk or a GMT II Pepsi
But I also tempted by the Tudor GMT Pepsi as it is really nice

I will keep you posted as to how I get on
