I really like the look of many of these 60’s/70’s style Racing watches being produced by some of the new microbrands that have arrived over the last 10 years or so.

There are a lot to choose from in the £200-1000ish range, and the quality of design and manufacture seems excellent for the money (from watching reviews).

I quite fancy one (or two..) for fun, and I especially like the look of the Roue and the Autodromo for starters.

Anyone else seen any nice retro race watches recently? Post them up smile

I have a Roue CHR and it’s a brilliant watch. It actually gets more wrist time than my 1969 Breitling Navitimer 806 and ‘everyday’ Breitling Bentley Speed Six.

I’ve been looking for an Autodromo Prototipo for a few months but I’m just not willing to spend £800 on one when I could have 4 more Roue’s for the same money.
I love the looks and style of the Roue CHR so much.

I watched a couple of review videos and was very impressed with the quality when it was inspected close up.

Well done smile

I have a Roue SSD One and an HDS One. SSD One is on the wrist as i type.

Another brand to throw into the mix would be MHD. Matthew Humphries Design, as in the chap who was Morgan's chief designer for a while. I met him at the Prescott Hillclimb over the last Bank Holiday weekend, he had a stand showing off their watches. He was excellent to chat to.

Good shout on Omologato, I will check these out too.
I have looked at the Dan Henry 1968 before, I like it, but have failed to pull the trigger. Same with the Autodromo watches.
The Roue SSD is so nice.

It was difficult to choose between the CHR and the SSD, but for me, the CHR just edged it.

If anyone fancies a punt on an actual old/vintage racing watch:

Could go cheap. Needs a service.

I think it’s a great, and underrated, category of watch.

Some fantastic looking stuff posted in this thread so far.

Go on, treat yourself!

Think this goes in here but picked up a Seiko 7T32-7F80 this week for £70.. I’d have loved a 7C60 but not paying the asking price for one.

Absolute bargain. Looks a nice chronograph for the money.

According to a tracking update, my Roue CHR should arrive total.

If true, that’s extremely fast delivery. Only ordered it on Monday.

Its arrived.

I shall post photos tonight, but I have unboxed it, fitted the strap, peeled stickers off etc

Initial thoughts are that it looks really great. Better than the photos actually.

The quality and finish appears to be excellent. Hugely solid and weighty as well.

Very impressed so far. If you told me it was a £1000 watch I wouldn’t question it.

Ended up going for £31. I was keen but it was pretty difficult trying to track down any information on "Forum Watch" that didn't end up in a watch forum!
Yep.

I did I bit of googling and couldn’t turn up much.

I'm a big fan of the MHD watches, have an SQ1, panda dial CR1, a GT and an SA2 on order.

Not a big fan of the big name premium watches and being able to talk to the actual designer and buy from him personally makes it feel a bit more special.

Great service from Matthew too, battery went in my SQ1 and I took it along to Shelsley Walsh (MHD have a stand there at most events and are official timing partner there), he took the watch from me, fitted a new battery and returned it in the post a few days later all at no cost to me

Seen his ideas for his next watch and already got my name down for one
The black dial MHD SQ1 is really very nice. Especially with the black ‘Rally strap’ with red stitching.

Ok, so this one isn’t ‘affordable’... $41,000

But an interesting Retro/Race watch.

Any pics or any more thoughts?
Had it 2 months now.

I like it that much that it’s what I choose to wear 9/10 when I put a watch on.

The quality is superb.

I have a GMT II and a few other watches, and I barely look at any of them at the moment. Just go straight for this.

I love the style of it, but I also like that it’s different and fairly anonymous. When you wear a Rolex (or similar) people make a judgement about you, which may be either good or bad.

This doesn’t come with any of that ‘baggage’. It’s just a really nice watch which people admire.

Still loving it? How do they stand up to daily use?

I’ve just seen the new TPS and think a purchase is in order
Yes, I still wear it at least 2-3 days every week. It has been excellent. Showing no signs of wear and I still feel the build quality is excellent.

A friend of mine recently bought the TPS and was extremely impressed when it arrived. Couldn't believe how nice it was for the money.

Thanks, good to know!

Which colour did your friend go with? I like the black but also wonder if I could pull off the grey. The engraving on the back swung it for me, looks a great daily wear for the money.
He went for the white face, black sub dials, with grey strap. It looks really nice, but personally for me, the black face with black strap, or the grey face with brown strap are the nicest.

If I was forced to choose it would be the black face with black leather strap.
