I was given this. Is it worth bringing back to life?

Any piece of clockwork is worth bringing back to life, they are all beautiful in their intricacy and, in themselves, are works of art. But just my opinion wink

I think those able to tell you what it is (probably not me) would need to see the movement.

The stamps inside the case give the following information regarding the case:

Stirling silver, Birmingham assay office, 1930.
Dennison watch case co.

Here’s some more info on Dennison, which depending on the movement inside would suggest that yes, it has a value that makes it worth restoring:

I think that's worth saving, looks like a nice thing to have.

I've used watchguy.co.uk previously for a few watches including Rolex, for me the price was very good (Rolex about £260) but the best thing was you get lots of photos and can keep up with progress on his website.

Might be worth dropping him a line and he can give advice.

What's not working about it? Pop the back cover and let us see the movement. It looks like a generic "Swiss made" movement and as such spares can be extremely hard to find by their generic, none branded nature.

I have a fair few pocket watches with one from 1760 which still runs.
Most of mine have just had a dirty movement with old grease and such causing issue.
Micheal Kibby is the man i use who is extremely reasonable.
Best of luck.r

The Dennison case is in good condition. I have a seven jewel watch from 1912 (IIRC) in the exact same case, but yours in in better nick.

Please pop the inner case back open and post pictures of the internals. You should find a indentation for a fingernail almost opposite the hinges. It just pops open.

Dennison cases were used by many watchmakers. It's likely that there will be a fairly middle of the road movement in there. It is not going to be a one jewel dollar watch movement in a solid silver case.

It's probably also worth pointing out that the graduated silver watch chain is rather nice too. Looks like every link is hallmarked, just as it should be for solid silver. The chain alone has a very similar value to the watch.

Joe at Anglesey Watches and Clocks is on PH (Variomatic) and repaired my Dad's mechanical watch, he did a great job and was really well priced. He is best contacted via his Facebook page as he had heart attack a couple of years ago (documented on here, no confidences broken) so is working from home.
