I've always been a fan of TAG, depsite the fact they are known as the perfect choice for people who know nothing about watches.
I'd like to buy something new. Can't really be arsed to drop more than 2-2.5k on something as i want to wear it everyday and not stress about scratching it etc. Have flirted with Panerai but struggle to justify it.

So, are TAG really that bad at that price point?
What else would get your money?

A good condition second hand omega?
What style do you like? That will influence what people may suggest.
Good question.

Chrono.

And i have a penchant for a tan leather strap. Don't like bracelets.

Could agree more.

I bought a TAG for £800 in 2005, sold it this year for £500.
It changed my view on expensive watches.

…and I know that wouldn’t be deemed expensive by some.

I’m not sure what point you’re trying to make. I bought a sea master in 2001, it’s worth more now. I bought a submariner in 2015, it’s worth double now - for perspective.
That an expensive watch could ever be an asset, or something that could cost less than a Casio over its life.

I used to think people that dropped £10k on a watch were just flash feckers. Then I sold my (pretty crappy) TAG for only £300 less than I paid - 30 years later! Made me think that dropping £5k on a watch is somewhat a win win - providing you buy right.

What are the smart investment? LE versions?

I haven’t seen a Longines Bigeye but it has very positive reviews. I bought a Hydroconquest years ago and would have no hesitation in recommending Longines as a brand.

Bigeye currently on sale at Fraser Hart… ETA just realised it is the discontinued version that is on sale but nevertheless I think it merits consideration

Stunning watch that. Never considered Longines. Any good?

I'm not too bad thanks.
Still stuck in the UK, still got the 360 but never got the 1.4m AED I was owed by the previous employer sadly so most other plans got put on hold.

Would still love to return to the UAE one day, but from what I hear the days of Western packages like I had previously are now long gone.
You and me both. I'm still owed 1.5m AED from a big job we did in the UAE. Don't like paying up do they?

Typically I went shopping and didn’t see anything I liked at that price point. An entry level Breitling at £3.5k caught my eye. Was very stylish, the perfect size, and not in-your-face flash. Loved it.

Will save some more and entertain some 0% finance. Assistant said they’d throw in a £270 tan leather strap too, gratis.

Thanks for all your suggestions. Most helpful.
