I just want to walk into a bl***y shop this weekend, handover £7k and walk out with a bog standard no date sub 124060…..

It will be on my wrist to the end of time….I’ve saved up the £7k, I’m ready!! Endless polite email threads for over a year (to very nice people on the other side) and phone calls for a very long time and nothing!!! No glimmer of hope…really starting to annoy me (no other watch I don’t currently own takes my interest so can’t even walk away and do business elsewhere)

It’s annoying.

One goldsmiths store, appeared happy
To assist and took my details and filled them into their “database” there and then. Not a word off them in 4 years.

Another goldsmiths got me a retail price sub date in 3 days after a polite conversation.
That is incredibly annoying - great that you got one but the effort to run around being super polite and grateful. I’m having one more attempt and this time I genuinely want to buy my wife jewellery for her birthday so let’s see if that makes a difference. I then may give up.

The point being I’m buying the wife jewellery anyway so attempting to purchase both at the same time. Also will be a new shop. I’m sure this won’t work. Last try.

Witten - I think this is the next step. It’s just a bit annoying isn’t it but agreed it gets the job done

I had exactly the same thoughts as you OP back in March of this year, attempting to buy my first and only and forever Rolex (Explorer 39mm, the only one i'd ever wanted and the explorer having family significance).... spoke quite extensively about it on the Bubble thread, with the same "I just want to walk in and buy one" thoughts frown

Horrid experiences at all of the 3/4 official dealers I'd attempted to to get one at, and absolutely hated the idea of paying 25%+++ from some grey market flipper... indeed I felt as though it would ruin having the watch and I'd remember how I was "mugged off" in order to get it. Unworn was important to me, as it was to be a hand down to my as yet non existent son or daughter one day so wanted to be the first owner.

Rumours were that it was to be discontinued, (it was a few weeks later, so that worked out well) so I just grimaced and paid 2k over from watchfinder, who had a newly listed unworn one. It's worth more now, but that's irrelevant as its not going anywhere ever.

To be honest I've forgotten..(ish!!) about the premium now, even though it was a lot of extra money, and I haven't had to debase myself playing games with ADs. Sadly it's the way it is now.

But that watch is safe and sound on my wrist, and I'm glad I did it. So go for a good grey one. If you find that you resent what you've done after, can always sell it on smile

As I mentioned above, whilst buying something for my wife in Harrods I went into the rather impressive watch area….and popped into Rolex. The chap was very nice and when we sat down and I stated I have been looking for ages blah blah blah wanted a sub blah blah….he basically had a look of no chance. He then asked do I like anything else, and I said all the bezelled sports models around the 40/41mm are lovely.

He told me a yachtmaster 40 he might be able to do, followed by “and it shouldn’t be too long?!!”

Looking at prices on Chrono24 they are not going for as much of a mark up on other models. Lovely watches in particular the blue face….can’t help but think I’ll still want that Sub!

No more ADs for me…unless I get that sub call ;-)

Has anyone tried Timetofind.com

Run by an old clients son of mine with a lot of very very good watch connections.

Not an advert, no dealings with them personally or professionally. Just could be good, although on something with so little supply could still be a challenge.

V.
Never heard of them - I have just signed up and requested through their concierge. Let’s see

Got a reply “Sorry sir we don’t do those Rolex models, we cannot get hold of them”. No surprise

There's a 124060 popped up on TZ, £9250
Still a £2k premium, but less than the £12k someone like Watchfinder are asking.
Sticking to the £7k ish budget there is a 14060 on TZ at £7700 wink

No connection to either seller just spotted them on my usual browse on there. rotate
I don’t know TZ - what am I missing? What’s the link to the watches for sale?

So an update. Introduced myself to my new local AD face to face (I moved house). Sub list closed, GMT list closed (exc Root Beer). I have registered interest for an EXP2 black dial, Yachtmaster 40 (either dial) and the Rootbeer.

Friend in the office next day had the new Sub (green bezel) I tried it on and it felt good but quite chunky (maybe the 21mm lug and 41mm case?). Anyway bored of waiting for one at RRP and can’t handle paying over for a product still in retail, so Watchfinder price matched a 2018 GMT 116710LN and I’ve bought it…done!!!
