Reported to police and insurance. A man conned my wife as she was selling it. He left without paying, running off into a waiting getaway car. Glad she wasn’t hurt.

So, if you are tempted to sell your watch privately, and he turns up then call the police

Absolute scum…. and even with the CCTV image, I assume police aren’t interested?
They will get back to us within 5 working days with a response. They issued a crime number over the phone.

Insurance has a clause specifically to not pay out in deception fraud. Still within the 5 day KPI period for a response from the police. That’s not to do anything, just provide a response.

I don’t understand your post, are you inferring we are trying to scam the insurance company?

Yes, he used what I now know to be the envelope scam, switching the envelope with the money in to one with paper in. He then took the watch and left hurriedly and a bit aggressive, he was running up the drive and down the road into a waiting car as my wife realised the envelope didn’t contain money. By the time I had car keys and got out of the drive they were long gone.

We have reflected on the incident and thought if we had caught him out mid act what would of happened. My wife is early 60’s I am nearly 70 with 2 heart attacks in my past. He was about 6’2” and would be eager to leave.

We, and our dog, were all unharmed.

Lesson learned.

I feel once he was in the house he wasn’t leaving without the watch and money. On reflection there are several things I would do differently.

Why would you assume that?
The reality has been a crime number issued on the initial call with the police, who asked us to keep any evidence untouched in a sealed container for forensics to check for prints and dna, also if we and any neighbours have cctv to make it available. Since the initial call, last Wednesday there has been no response despite a follow up call from us and an e mail which received an automated response stating that the KPI is 5 working days to provide a response.

I hope to be proved wrong but I doubt that a forensic team will call. If they do I will update.

Short update, given we have now exceeded the KPI of 5 working days (7 in total) we phoned Surrey Police, several times, to try and get an update. The shortest hold time was 17 mins and answered, the longest 32 mins and we gave up, the remaining call times on hold were between the two.

The response has been a case number issued but no officer assigned and they will be in touch within the KPI response time of 5 working days.

Latest update, we have been informed there will be no site visit to collect evidence, nor should we drop it in to the police station as the crime falls below the threshold for further action. We explained we also had good quality cctv and still images of the thief.

The police suggested we send them in via e mail. I explained their systems do not allow for attachments.

The policeman said he would e mail us so we could reply with attachments. Still waiting for e mail.

E mail came through, starts with Noreply…… I wonder if they do it so you give up. Let’s see what £85k’s worth of Police and Crime Commissioner can do.

The only threshold I have seen is a 5 day response time KPI, not met. When questioned, we are extremely busy at present.

Each year I pay more and more tax, even when now retired on fixed income. Where does it go.

Sorry for thread drift, it’s the frustration creeping out.

What I find frustrating is the endless social media posts of various forces posting their success against errant motorists for not having an MOT, noisy exhaust, no tax. Whilst I understand these things need action where are the posts highlighting success against higher hanging fruit.

Serial number given to police and Rolex AD who info Rolex for the register. As the watch is not covered by insurance, despite having it, and mine, identified on our household policy it will be returned if it ever shows up in the Rolex network.

Correct e mail came through, uploaded a total of 4 videos showing the scrote. It’s a case of wait and see, not hopeful.

Household policy excluded Deception Fraud. Check yours. Apparently a standard clause.
