A Man & His Watch
Discussion
I am not sure if anyone else on here has read this book. Its premise is that great watches not only tell time but also tell stories. And this book presents a collection of stories and images representing a diverse and quite fascinating group of horological devotees.
This book, naturally, is about remarkable watches. But it's really about why objects, such as watches have meaning. It's a collective history about what we inherit and pass on, and the stories we tell that become more important over time.
My best friend bought me a copy after an evening of us sharing the stories of some of our watches over a couple of bottles of red and whilst I haven't finished the book, I am enjoying it and thoroughly recommend it!
£20 from Amazon.

Great book, there's a car one too.
Yeah, I saw that too, but having read a few of the reviews there is apparently a lot of 'Merica in there and also apparently some mistakes which kinda put me off buying it but for £20 odd maybe I should just do it.I did note that at the beginning of the Watch book, he states that Paul Newman won the 24hr of Le Mans, he did win in his class in 1979 but not overall, but I think I am being maybe a bit unfair in picking that bit up!

The author is my wife’s cousins Husband. Great book and a great guy. His Instagram is all meat, drink, watches and cars. Wmbrownproject
Whilst I don't really do Instagram, you have listed all of my interests in one sentence there, so I will be checking that out! He sounds like a great guy!Bob_Defly said:
LOL, I'm not too precious about watches, and I like rugged-looking stuff. It turned out quite well in the end. I've still got a purchase or two to make.
And if it's good enough for this guy it's good enough for me.
That looks fantastic! I wonder if you could do one with multiple layers... And if it's good enough for this guy it's good enough for me.
Outside of the watch box, I keep some of mine that aren't worn regularly in their original boxes. Rather than rummaging through a load of boxes, I could just put them all in one of these!!
What would that be called!? A flight case?
A piece of roadside furniture!?

Christ almighty! You weren't kidding when you said brace yourself! Holy moly!https://www.rimowa.com/gb/en/accessories/limited-e...
Coincidently I have been looking for a new cabin suitcase too, but £1,790 for a 3-watch case probably says I cannot justify £6,000 on a suitcase!
Wow! I just cannot see any justification for those prices!
Thanks for the Peli recommendation Paralla and Mezzanine, they look really good value for money! I think something like the 40 watch case would be ideal for keeping them all in one place and then just move them from there to the watch box when I rotate them.
Fantastic, thank you both, really great!

Yeah, they look great! So buying a Peli case for the watches instead of one made by Rimowa, that's saved me around £1,400, hmmmmm.
Yep. Man maths calculated, justification definitely for a Rimowa cabin case at least!
Cheers for bringing my attention to these! (Wife is going to kill me)

Just bought the `A Man & His Car` as well.
Also worth a read!
Lol, yea you and me both. Also worth a read!
Thanks to the OP, I have ended up buying both books in 3 days.
I've had the car book in the Amazon basket for a week or so now, but from what I have heard and read it's heavily 'Merica focussed and apparently has a few mistakes in it, which has made me wonder if I will be a bit disappointed with it. If the Watch book was anything to go by, I hope it wouldn't, you'll both have to let me know how it is!
In other news, and with the continuing watch book thread/theme, I bought - Chasing Time: Vintage Wristwatches for the Discerning Collector also from Amazon, and whilst it has some stunning watches in, the writing leaves quite a lot to be desired. I have read a bit of it, but found that rather than reading it, I've just been flicking through and for anything that jumps out at me that I'm not familiar with (which is quite a lot) I go off down the google rabbit hole of research!
