can only hope Thomas Cook are next, dreadful Company...
My eldest has just started working for TC as an apprentice, am sure he would be thrilled to lose his job after all the effort he put into securing that position from the hundreds of hopefuls because you think they are "dreadful".

Why would you wish the demise of a whole *British* company as you had a bad experience, or are you pointing out holiday charter airlines not up to your usual high standards in aviation ?

Anyway, nice to hear Monarch are still with us !

I would rate Ryanair above Monarch, the only saving grace for Monarch is you can understand the staff although sometimes you get the odd grump crew member. But I would only fly 2.5 hours on them as they are so uncomfortable.
They are a holiday airline, people want cheap package holidays, the only way that. can work is by maximising the numbers on each flight, hence the discomfort, my last Monarch flight was about 2010 and it was a bit like hard work, Turkey so over four hours, I am just over six foot and my knees were pressed into the seat in front, made worse as the wire for the magazine pocket was twisted, didn't help that I was bloated and sunburnt from a weeks all inclusive, plus there was a bloke scratching himself raw next to me, excruciating but safe and in time, you get what you pay for, was two grand for five of us, paid that near enough for my last flight to Atalnta on Virgin, 1700 or so, only in premium.

Cheap budget airlines offer worse service than flag carriers shock.....eeklaugh

Monarch & Ryanair exist because the public gets what the public wants...

The problem with the general public is generally that they are thick, greedy selfish morons. The rise of the "comp-un-say-shun" culture does not help, what's hard to understand about that occasionally, mechanical & electrical things break, weather happens, other incidents happen that may inconvenience your selfish little parasite arse for a few hours, generally because teams of people are working hard to make sure that you get to where you are going safely, and not spearing into the sea at 450 Knots... But you can't teach pigs to sing, so the race to the bottom will continue!
Fair points and extra Internet points for squeezing a Jam lyric in !

With the cheaper carriers there isnt the cash to ego massage the customer when things go awry, perhaps pay Etihad 12 grand for a First Class seat if you want more in the way of touchy feely customer service, these carriers offer you a seat, on a plane and thats it, like you say, sometimes with the best will in the world it goes wrong, I would rather the budget airlines spend money on safety than hot towels and that extra inch of legroom and Monarch have an exemplary record.

I think the compensation culture is pretty rank, a guy at work was crowing about getting £800 for a delay, he is the same bloke that will only venture in to the office when there is free food, he is not poor in any way but the grasping attitude is very unpleasant.
