I know that it's still a long way off, but I am hearing some very exciting things about this.
There is apparently a "Royal Review" massed flypast on the Friday.
They are having to modify car parking as they have a lot more aircraft than usual to park.
Rumours of an A10 display, and also that the Americans are going to send representative aircraft from squadrons that were in service 100 years ago.
Also an RAF F35B

Should be an epic weekend.

I’m getting paid to watch planes fly. No fences. No laddder morons.

Airside, an unobstructed view with just a 3 foot picket fence.

Sorted.
I think it won't just been the weekend. Lots of stuff going on, 2018 is going to be a vintage year for aviation me thinks.

My first RIAT was 1985, I turned down a ticket to a music gig at Wembley Stadium (Live Aid, but I did not know what it was till after the event) but I DID get to see an EE Lightning in the air, so every cloud and all that.

I suppose I think anything is expensive for an airshow, Brunters cold war jets is 20 qui and you can get far, far closer.

RIAT is not the best lineup I have ever seen.

Just seems pricey for me, when you will have to likely queue for hours in and out. I guess you guys must be converts. But hours at a venue does not equate to value in my eyes, there are lots of things.

Sorry but had enough of that back in he whole days, and I wasn't driving then, and the lineups were vastly superior.
So don't go then.
Plenty of people think it's a fantastic lineup, which I suspect is not fully announced yet.
I for one think RIAT do a brilliant job year on year.

Anyone else heard the rumours of a trump visit on Friday? His published itinerary has him down to visit a ‘defense site’ to view both US and U.K. capability. Then lunch at chequers, bucks afterwards, just a short helicopter ride from fairford. I’ve also heard hints dropped from people in high places that he’ll be there.

Could be a little bit of added excitement watching the circus arrive.
Yes I have been hearing the rumours for weeks. There are VIPS going Friday, but not Trump. I imagine it would be a security nightmare.

I would suggest call your mobile provider and get an additional 5GB of internet data and stream it. I will watch it and might bring my iPad in for a bigger screen if we do make the final.
i doubt their temporary mast will cope with the sheer volume of mass streaming that will inevitably occur!

  • if we make it that is
I imagine they will have a capacity plan based on this scenario

Good show today, especially the BBMF, Reds, F35 and B2. Best display? A400M or Chinook, both doing things that they shouldn't be physically able too!
Highlight for me was the Tornado, Lancaster and F35 Flypast.

Just finished a spell of volunteering there. Long days but god fun.
I think the Italian team were excellent again the Ukrainians were a lot more restrained this year. As said the a400 always does a good display i managed to catch the b2 this year which was good.
It seemed a good show.
Amazed by the amount of people wearing inappropriate footwear for the amount of walking you have to do.
Also having no suncream or water as not expecting the weather to be hot, there is no helping some people.
The irony is that along with my suncream and water I also remembered my umbrella on Friday...
I manned security checkpoints this year. I had to open up 11 times in an hour to let ambulances through, almost all heat related issues.
