where are they going to park all the planes?
Discussion
Something that occurs to me, with all these countries closing borders, flights being cancelled, travel bans etc. this obviously means that many aircraft are now going to be grounded.
In "normal" times, most airports are pretty busy places already with most stands and gates occupied already, and a quick look at flightradar shows a hell of a lot of of planes in the air at the same time.
so - if we are grounding most flights, where are they going to park them all???
And how are they going to get the flight crews back home afterwards.

8,500 planes in the air / with transponders on at the moment according to Flightradar24. Thats 1000 less than this time yesterday ...
7,100 this morning …
according to google on average there should be 9'700 planes in the air ….
Coming down (no pun intended) by about 1000 a day.
I assume cargo will continue flying as long as there is demand.

According to flightradar24 there were 8,500 planes in the air at about this time on the 19th October.
Right now its showing 4,600!! Thats a lot of planes parked up and flight crews stood down around the world!!
And only about 830 over the whole of Europe!

Given that one runway is halfway to the uk in taxi time, they have shed loads of space...
I recall the first time departing from the one you refer to, I was beginning to think we were just driving back. They should push the trolley round again, give everyone a little drink for the drive back to the airport.
