I fairly regularly partake in the odd pint of Guinness and only ever ask for extra cold when offered.

It dawned on me that whenever I am at the bar virtually everybody asks for the extra cold, is there any benefit to asking for a pint of normal Guinness?

Surely the cold is better, because it's well.....colder.

It's the same price in my local as well.

ETA they both come from the same barrel don't they but the extra cold has cooled lines??

As long as it's cold and creamy.
But which would you ask for given the choice?

Only drink it every now and again but extra cold for me . Just been to a friends wedding and i was amazed about the guinness i have there . It came in a can but after they had poured it in to the glass. They put it on this small stand thing it did something to the guinness. Then it looked like it came from a tap .
Guinness can surger? I thought they flopped in the UK and were withdrawn ages ago?
It flopped in the off trade (home consumption) but in terms on the on trade it's in massive growth. I couldn't tell you how many are in the uk now but it is frightening. The idea is very simple, surger cans have no widget so it uses an electric pulse to 'surge' the glass and release the gas in the beer.

In terms of regular Guinness vs extra cold. Different parts of the country See different trends but extra cold is more popular now. There's only 2c difference.

I know all this as I work for them and my job is (amongst numerous other things) to taste test Guinness every day. -yes honestly!!
Which do you prefer?
