I've found the price of coffee remains fairly consistent as I'm between Midlands and London often.Flat - 2.60 - 2.90
Latte - 2.60 - 3.00
Mocha - 2.80 - 3.20
There's an interesting article about this by James Hoffmann (highly recommend his blog). Coffee Shops are petty stuck when it comes to pricing as people haven't accepted that people putting a great deal more effort in to sourcing / making good coffee and providing a good experience will cost more than a standard cafe, especially independents who don't have the economies of scale. This is why coffee shops work on very low margins and high turnover. A lot of the niche coffee shops would love to be charging 4 quid a cup to make it worth their while but it'd end up with everyone going to Costa instead. He did an interesting burger analogy; the public have accepted and are happy to pay 15 quid for a high quality burger in comparison to 99p McDonalds. This same mindset hasn't translated into coffee. The public expect coffee to be X price regardless of where it's coming from.

I forgot a old classic . The oldest and still one of the best
ladies (and there are many here ) and gents I give you the "Algerian Coffee Store " . Purchased a few bits and bobs and a nice "Induction ready " Grunwerg" That will get its first outing tomorrow . Also purchased some of their Finer ground coffee.
But their actual coffee to drink (take away) is still up there with the best .

On the topic of old school shops, HR Higgins is on my list to visit. It's in Mayfair.
