Agree with a lot of the ones above, I happen to LOVE restaurant Story and in each of the 3 times I've been there it has actually got better, but I do appreciate it's £200 a head and some people may not "get it". And whoever commented on the location it used to be a disused toilet block when I first lived there!!
Brindisa is great for Tapas, and the usual Goodman's and Hawksmoor aren't too far a walk over the north side.

The only place of decent quality close by that hasn't been mentioned is www.constancia.co.uk/
When I lived in Shad Thames I'd eat here about once a month. Small, excellent and reasonable in price. I've not been there for 2 years but if it is anything like it used to be then it is an undiscovered little gem.

Hope this is of use to the OP or someone else.
Very helpful Constancia I'll certainly store for another visit.

Fenchurch fully booked but have reservation at Ting for the tasting menu for now while I wade through all the great selections. Goodmans, smiths, gauchos I've done with a steak loving friend hence the interest in Constancia.

Thanks again
