Having a DIY wedding next year in a local village hall and we're wanting an open bar for out guests. We're having 40 people for the wedding breakfast and then around a 100-120 on the evening (depending on how many invitees RSVP). I've looked online for "calculators" that guestimate what we'll need but the problem is they all vary quite widely on what they think we'll need.

Does anyone have any advice?

Thanks in advance.

i would suggest a ticket system first few drink free then pay after that, stops people taking the piss as well as keeping people happy, free drinks. Also controls who has free drinks and stops crashers and champagne charlies.
I probably should clarify. This isn't like a normal bar type open bar, more of a trip to France and fill up on what we can (pre order and get free crossing). So guests can just top up as they wish. The village hall is quite remote and in a respectful sort of place so we don't have any worries about gate crashers or anything.

So any advice on how much to buy?

Current list:

Wine 54 Bottles

18 Bottles of the sparkly stuff

240 Bottles of beer (various)
60 Bottles of cider

Whiskey 5 Bottles (3 JD, 1 Honey JD, 1 Fire JD) ... (It wouldn't be right for me to have anything else but that's a different story.)
Vodka 5 Bottles
Rum 2 Bottles
Gin 2 Bottles
Pimms 4 Bottles
Ammaretto 1 Bottles
Baileys 1 Bottles
Tequila 1 Bottles

Coke 20 litres
Diet Coke 20 litres
Lemonade 20 litres
Fanta 20 litres
Orange Juice 10 Litres
Apple Juice 10 Litres
Fruit Shoot, Some
Tonic 6 litres
Squash Black Current and Orange

That's for the wedding breakfast of 40 then on to about 100 evening guests and works out as about 1500 servings of alcohol.

Should do, right?

JD isn't whisky!!!
You are very correct.

It's whiskey. wink

To explain though through gifts given to me over the years and the appreciation of these gifts I now have a collection worth several thousand pounds. All of it JD. It would sort of be wrong for me to have any other brand at such a special occasion.

A small update. I got married on Thursday, and as mentioned the decision was Cava on arrival, two bottles per table of 6, then a pay for bar. As far as I'm concerned it worked fine. There was actually plenty of wine left after the meal, so much so that two of the last of us standing at 2.15am took up to their room a bottle of wine left remaining. I didn't buy a drink all night, which was nice, at one point I actually had 3 gifted pints of Becks lined up on my table! Everyone had an amazing time. Probably 50% were sober or tipsy, 40% well juiced, and 10% completely out of their tree. Good times, and a lot of great great memories.
