Steak in the fridge, how long?

Folks, I happened to be driving past one of my favourite butchers on Wednesday. Took the opportunity to pop in and buy a nice bit of rib eye. Put it in the fridge ready for Friday night
Typically, I received a JustEat voucher today and it expires on Friday night so my plans have changed. Got me thinking, how long would you leave a steak, cut from a joint on Wednesday, in the fridge until you think its quality/flavour would start to suffer?
I'm not on about 'best/use before' stuff, I know about that. But will it be worse on Saturday than Wednesday? Does storing in a fridge change steak in that way?

I know it's in a fridge, I was just wondering if after it's cut or even before, it starts to loose quality and flavour and is there a time scale?I did have a rib eye a few months ago, purchased from a different butcher that was left from Wed to Sat in the fridge and in all honesty it was nasty. Didn't smell overly dodgy but the taste wasn't there, I've not been back to the same butcher mind you...
