I'll admit that I'm a little marmite obsessed - I do love it, even to the extent of eating it straight from the jar...

The one I've not got/tried is Champagne Marmite - I had resigned myself to the fact that I'll never get it as it was a limited edition run and it ended ages ago (not to mention the fact that they'd all be out of date now anyway).

For a bit of humour, I thought I'd try ebay and at least get an empty jar or something... I was quite surprised to find full jars on sale there for up to £15! In sealed jars.... "Ideal for a collector". I'm actually tempted to buy one and then post a video of me opening the jar and eating it...

Which begs my question - do people actively collect foodstuffs - for collecting purposes? Wine, whisky, etc I'll give you - but food?

Hmm I have an unopened sealed pot of Champagne Marmite in the cupboard downstairs. I also have another opened one too (Got them for my birthday).

It is unquestionably the most delicious substance known to man, just thinking about it makes me salivate...

Nom nom nom...

hehe Er OK, it's not actually that nice compared to normal Marmite, slightly sweeter maybe.

I'd swap it for a jar of the real stuff if you were to deliver.
I'm after a jar - If you're local, you're on ! smile

Oh and marmite crisps, rice crackers and cereal bar!

Gutted - I just want to try it - I'll keep the empty jar, but I just need to try it!

The Marmite in question is a "Marstons special edition" - http://thefoodielist.co.uk/wp/marstons-marmite-lim...

Tasty - but given the flavours of them, I ultimately prefer the original marmite. I've had some of the XO, but it's a bit meh.

This is a more recent representation of my Marmite collection... (Apart from the emergency spare jar I keep in my drawers, that is....)

Back on topic - I still don't get collecting foods...

Marstons sounds good too. I quite like the XO flavour. Not just stronger, more matured if that makes sense?

Found some on ebay but will keep looking for now.
Forgot to say - Tesco are still showing it online... I'll have a look out for you, if I see some, I'll get some for you smile

Vegemite just isn't the same - tastes funny too.

The Vegemite with Kraft "cheese" is pretty nice though....

Vegemite Cheesybite!

Anyone know where I can source this cheaply in the UK? Online there is Sanza, but a little bit expensive to obtain it from there.
It's not generally available, I begged, stole and borrowed the few jars I got hold of...

A very nice black E46 M3 SMG but that's O/T.

How was the cereal bar?

BTW ever tried this? http://www.chocolatereviews.co.uk/marmite-xo-bar/
I like the look of that chocolate bar...

The cereal bar was, to be honest, horrendous - it tasted like a normal cereal bar that someone had just chucked marmite in - too much sweet and salt that clashed as opposed to complimented.

I tried the Marmite Cheddar cheese the other day and have to admit that I didn't really like. I won't be buying it again.
Really? I loved it and the reason I won't buy it again is because I found it moreish and I would hoover up a lot of it in a very short space of time...

I've got to agree with CooperD, wasn't overly impressed. Marmite is excellent stuff and on toast, with cheese it is great. It does not make great cheese in itself though!
MMMmmm - Toast/marmite/cheese - MMMmmmm

Marmite is the ingredient that transforms beans on toast into "King of Beans":

  • Heinz beans, on the lowest heat possible, for at least ten minutes until they go nice and mushy
  • Warburtons "green" super toastie, done under the grill. I shall permit use of a proper Dualit toaster in lieu of the grill.
  • Proper salted butter (not the easy spread rubbish) on the toast, which must NOT be squashed flat
  • Marmite on the toast
  • Beans on the toast
  • Grated strong cheddar on the beans
  • Freshly grpund black pepper and Lea and Perrins and/or Tabasco
There you have it. King of Beans.
Now that, I'll try smile

My collection of jars (they're getting on for mostly empty) is growing smile

Thanks toasty smile

The standard marmite jar is nearly empty and I've had to dig out the little "emergency" spare jar - The champagne marmite will be tried this morning - none of this save the jar for forever nonsense... (Something I might regret, but marmite's for eating!)

ETA - The marmite was very nice, slightly sweet, but very nice. I've asked my colleague next to me to advise anyone that tries to have some that that particular jar is off limits smile
