Rubber Bullets - Lyrics
Discussion
Morning all
Here are the lyrics for the song "Rubber Bullets" by the band 10CC.
I will allow comments & discussion on this thread, but any profanity or insulting words will result in a three day ban.
I went to a party at the local county jail
All the cons were dancing and the band began to wail
But the guys were indiscreet
They were brawling in the street
At the local dance at the local county jail
Well the band were playing
And the booze began to flow
But the sound came over on the police car radio
Down at precinct 49
Having a tear-gas of a time
Sergeant baker got a call from the governor of the county jail
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
I love to hear those convicts squeal
Its a shame these slugs aint real
But we cant have dancin at the local county jail
Sergeant baker and his men made a bee-line for the jail
And for miles around
You could hear the sirens wail
Theres a rumor goin round death row
That a fuse is gonna blow
At the local hop at the local county jail
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Sergeant baker started talkin
With a bullhorn in his hand
He was cool, he was clear
He was always in command
He said blood will flow;
Here padre
Padre you talk to your boys…
Trust in me –
God will come to set you free
Well we dont understand
Why you called in the national guard
When uncle sam is the one
Who belongs in the exercise yard
We all got balls and brains
But somes got balls and chains
At the local dance at the local county jail
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Load up, load up, load up with rubber bullets
Is it really such a crime
For a guy to spend his time
At the local dance at the local county jail
At the local dance at the local county jail
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Whatcha gonna do about it, whatcha gonna do
Over to you (should you choose to reply check the rules of my thread at the top)

Can't wait.
Fair enough! The song was about a riot in Attica, New York, at a prison (correctional unit to rehabilitate offenders and scum), not about the Northern Ireland conflict (itself referred to as "The Troubles")
The guitar solo, which is factually epic, is a double speed one.
The reception of the track was nowhere near as positive in the United States of America (Large country between Canada and Cuba) as in other geographies.
It is a good song with a persistant pacing and talented musical efforts.

Why were a band from Stockport moved to write a song about the subject matter?
And how much can I swear before I get banned?
Is bugger ok?
Presume st is not allowed so I'll leave that in the locker.
Careful. When you reply to posts on here the original text is revealed. No need for that, Tobes! And how much can I swear before I get banned?

I shall however research this for you and post my findings here.

I think your explanation of the songs background is good. Have you considered contributing to Wikipedia to reach a wider, perhaps more appreciative audience.
Any chance of that one where he was concentrating on fking right and he got a message from a brother or something
Appreciate your applaud. Let's battle out the analysis of this one, then I'll move on to more 10CC and perhaps Spyro Gyra. This looks like it could be a full time role though (while online, I cannot respond in my sleep or during personal time).I think your explanation of the songs background is good. Nice to have a supporter, cheers Osc.

Thin Lizzy - Jailbeak.
"Tonight there's going to be a jailbreak, somewhere in this town."
Errrr....the jail? Just a wild stab in the dark.
Its a dangerous game to derail the thread, but there is enough core support to keep it on the road to salvation. A good spot, another good song for discussion at another time."Tonight there's going to be a jailbreak, somewhere in this town."

I had faith in you to tell us stuff about the track. Now your just a fame seeking junkie who wants adulation. Your better than that. What were your emotions when you fist heard the track ? Do you hum along to it. What about the various musical styles employed in it. Do you consider it art house stuff or basic pop.
Not my place to comment about the track, I merely put it out there. Think what conclusions we can come to if we pool our opinions. Would you be happy to take minutes or perhaps create a wrap up if I impose a limit of say 300 posts? Maybe we can send it to the band.Gassing Station | Music | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
