About 6 months ago I was listening to an album on Spotify while i was working , album finished then a song I'd never heard before started playing

It's not often a first listen has me stopping what I'm doing to listen but this did , it was first and last by Alex Cornish.

I bought the album on eBay as he was sold out, ordered hang on the word and was surprised when a signed copy with a handwritten note arrived.

Last night I saw him live at the black dyke mills heritage venue in Bradford

I hadn't realised how small his audience actually is , 100 people in a small hall , tables and chairs , home made curry and bring your own booze.

I can say with total honesty I haven't enjoyed a gig as much as that in years, love the music , his musicianship and vocals are excellent , fantastic atmosphere , he's playing a few gigs over the next few days , Leicester tonight , Canterbury , Putney, £10 a ticket .

When you hear the dross on the radio constantly repeated every 3 hours i've no idea how somone so talented is still playing in pubs after 5 albums

Glad you both enjoyed it

I bought Beyond The Serenade on ebay as it was sold out on the website , liked it that much I ordered hang on the word which arrived signed , I emailed the team to see when the earlier albums would be back in stock

slightly surprised to get a reply from Alex saying he'd have a look in the garage , a few days later a package arrived , 3 commercial albums and 2 CDr with hand written track listings

I pointed out I hadn't paid for them , the reply was it's OK you can have them.

roll on 3 months

After the gig he was outside so we went over to tell him how much my wife and I had enjoyed the evening and thanked him for the CDs, he had a moment of recollection then said is it Darren

I was slightly surprised he'd remembered my name , we then had a 10 minute chat about his music , a genuinely nice guy.

I find it hard to believe someone with his talent can't get that breakthrough but kim wilde releases a godawful single and it's record of the week on radio 2 played every 2 hours
