I was just listening to Avenged Sevenfold and I was struck by how I like their studio stuff compared with how dire I thought they were when I saw them live (being supported by Disturbed who were, quite frankly, incomparably better)

Another group I was hugely disappointed with was Alter Bridge - to be fair not being as good as Halestorm and Shinedown isn't necessarily a bad thing. What is bad though is they were boring.

Let's hear of your disappointments

Megadeth have always been underwhelming live for me. Love the records, but live... nah. Same with Slayer (tho only seen Slayer when they've supported
Maiden. Gave their farewell Wacken set a miss)
Megadeth most certainly not my thing - but I was surprised at how thin(?)/weedy they sounded when they supported Scorpions a few years back

Its just come to me, one THE most disappointing gigs was one of my earliest...

I was huge Rainbow fan, went to see them play Wembley Arena on the Down to Earth tour....

Gig was going pretty well, huge Cozy Powell solo (Im honoured to have seen that). and then allegedly, Ritchie Blackmore had the hump and they went off stage after about 70 minutes....

The crowd trashed the venue needless to say......

I was so disappointed.
Yes, I seem to recall that RB had a reputation for being a prima Donna... could don't show enough love/appreciation for his genius and that's it no encore etc

Blue Oyster Cult, Newcastle City Hall in the mid 80's - after 20 minutes or so i went to the bar and watched the video jukebox instead! Dull beyond belief.
Funny I saw them at The Rambling Man (Kent) in 2016 and loved them... I can, however, see why they'd be considered dull as their stage show wasn't exactly popping.

My only really disappointment I've had from a from a gig was System of a Down at Manchester Arena, 2005 maybe. I didn't have the best seat in the house but it was "gig by numbers" with no audience interaction. Stark contrast to a lot of others I've enjoyed where the band spend time chatting to the crowd, introducing songs etc. Obviously I go for the music but I want some of the experience too otherwise I could stay home with the album and charge myself £8 for a glass of urine.
One of the (many) things that Gene Simmons said about their act was that a live act should be about theatre/spectacle otherwise you may as well just listen to the album and save yourself $$$$ Definitely agree

Though, to be fair, I saw ELO a couple of years ago where there was virtually zero interaction (maybe 30 words spoken) but really enjoyed it
