Thanks for the suggestions so far.

4x4 SUV would suffice. Some off road ability required but a workhorse for shifting rubbish and getting round some muddy sites is all that's needed.

I had thought about the Jeep. Any particular engines etc to consider noting my reliability comment!

Thanks all for some brilliant suggrstions.

I've looked at the Jeep.... 7k would get me an overland with lowish miles so a bit of budget creep is fine smile

I do like the CRV and wouldn't be averse to that.

I do need to keep the budget sort of in check as the idea is to get a car I'm not precious about abusing!

Thanks again all. Really appreciate your time helping.

Thanks all again

I will keep my eye out for the Jeep appearing.

I need to look at the Volvo. The tax initially puts me off but if the car is right then as a cost of ownership it may work.

Very nearly leased a new Toureg, bit went for an A6 Allroad in the end. Will have a look at these as well though.

Thanks for pointing that out. I had thought the diesels would be lower for some reason .

Apologies for bumping my own thread.

We are shortly due to get a dog and I'm now looking at getting a slightly larger vehicle. I've also taken this as an opportunity for some budget creep.

Anybody got any thoughts on the following;

https://www.twilliamscarsales.co.uk/used-cars/toyo...

The MOT history looks good to me and overall it looks a decent option but I'm not sure price wise how it stacks up.

Given the increased budget, I'm looking at up to 10K now, is there anything else I should now be looking at.

Thanks again in advance

Dog isn't that big smile but the car will be used mainly for camping trips and we will have 5 people in the car plus dog plus equiment.

It will be a 3rd car so light use really but coming out of my company car scheme lets me play with what I get.

I was looking at the range rover. My worry as most will say will be reliability, hence the leaning towards the Toyota. I'm no expert though!

To update and provide some closure

I've had the option to come out of my company car scheme so have bought a lightly used Discovery Sport. Pick up in 2 weeks.

I know there are some reliability 'challenges' but I got a great deal through the priveledge scheme.

Slight move away from my original £5k budget but this will become one of 2 cars now and not one of 3.

Thanks again for some really great advice.
