I've just paid for an L200 raging bull with power upgrade after months of research. wish I'd found this site sooner.
Have I made a monumental cock up, a little one or a good choice. I'll be towing a horse trailer up to 15,000 miles/pa with about 5,000 unhitched on top. light off roading. family car. filling with crap, logs etc.
Looked at the ford, couldnt get one! isuzu, wouldnt do any deals so expensive (abergele dealer), hi-lux didnt like the look, low tow limit & power, navara, less than one star ncap..at 30 the chassis removes the drivers feet thro the floor pan, air bags dont go off when req'd etc. Defender, cant pull the skin off a rice pudding & unreliable reputation, v. expensive.
L200 was only one any dealer could fit a tachograph, and all terrain tyres in the deal. Also NON of the others have a full 4x4 system, just limited slip diffs and low range.
Just had someone tell me they wish they'd never bought one due to low power..fair enough in standard @ 134 bhp. and chassis crap.

What I should have said is non of the others have a centre diff-lock or traction control..(except the defender.).

Part time 4x4 helps fuel consumption, Diff lock for mud, playing off rd when the going gets really fun.

Legingel, cheers, I really wanted a 110, . I thought the power was only 134bhp? I do loads of M.way miles too, are you going to depress me more by telling me I could get a new one for 24,500 otr, inc tacho, tow bar & single elecs. , air con, any other extras are a bonus, not deal breakers (sat nav, leather etc.) I couldnt find a dealer nearby, wirral, who knew what a discount was.

Thanks for all the feedback. I asked the question after ordering as all the reports/advice i get before this were in favour of an L200. Suppose I panicked a bit when 2 or three people said they were not up to the job.
I can now say it is NOT the step down from my Shogun I thought it might be. The ride is better and tows better. The shogun was a bit wallowy and as such tended to be affected more (when at speed)in wind/if the horses moved about a lot. Pulls really well, gearing even better for the job. Cant wait for a bit of off road fun in the lakes this month. Done 600 miles in my first week and so far made up.
Give it another 20,000 and we shall see.
