Anyone know the guy in DXB with the Ultima GTR?

I'd like to have a chat with him about registration/build etc whistle

Oh, and does anyone want to buy my XFR so I can fund my latest.....errr.....itch? Been wanting to build a car for about 20 years so think it is finally time.

And what better way to start than with an 800 BHP GTR?

Reluctantly. Very reluctantly.

Wife has given permission for a 800 BHP Ultima build in a moment of drunken madness; I therefore have to seize the opportunity with both hands.

i'm told it can often be found of an evening in fitness first car park, disco gardens.

post on GPH, there's a couple of guys building factory five cobra kits who'll be able on advise on the import and registration process.

the autodrome have LS7 engines going cheap, 500ish bhp and trick parts, ripe for supercharging.

where will you perform the build?
Build will be in my carport, covered in with added A/C, lighting, elastictrickery and carpet.

Why is the DA offloading cheap LS7 engines? Fall off the back of a race series?

yep, the failed speedcar series. they've got everything from 0mile to lightly used. sam bought one recently for his tvr and has spoken to the company who supplied/tuned them.

speak to your landlord and enclose the car port. it's a ballache working on anything when you're sweating buckets.
Do you know how much a 0 miler goes for? This may mean I can move up the timeline....

I'll enclose the carport with some garden fence or corregated stuff, then pipe A/C in from the drivers room. Whch would now be my parts store smile

Shameless plug for the XFR Dubizzle ad. http://tnydu.biz/DOmMyW

So, 2 years in a rented Ford Figo for me then. Got to be worth it though.

Applications for spannering, record-keeping and general workshop/teaboy will be gratefully received.

Matters not that the engines are not tuned, I understand that they were supplied with the intakes removed and carbs fitted? I know how much the DA paid for them too, in 2008, with waranty.

Who is Sam?

And where did you find that beautiful example of an XFR parked up, it looks almost a stunning as mine?

my flatmate, sent you the CV and met you at the last race. you know, ugly looking fella with a hunchback and limp,so slow around a track we did a rolling pitstop.

he has the full story but the build has been checked out by NFS who also bought a couple. not sure on price but ~$4k springs to mind.
Oh, that Sam paperbag

While you snuggle up on the sofa tonight could you get him to mail me with price and specification, plus a contact name at the Autdrome. Cheers.

Oh dear....

Had a response from the DXB owner of an Ultima - not good...

Lowlights for me were:

AED400k build cost, although that does include the engine from American Speed in the US. If the DA has cheaper LS7 engines available I may well be able to shave a chunk off this.

650 hours build time. Averaging 8-10 hours a week this is around 14-18 months. In a rental Figo frown

Sweat-box - AC is not that great and with the rad pipes just outside the cockpit it gets mighty warm inside. Not able to drive for 4 months of the summer.

Bottoms out on the wide speedbumps. And there are lots of those in DXB!

...And the big one - although he built his 4 years ago and things may have changed a little; he can only register as a race car and only drive to and from the track. Oh dear.

So to the mitigation...

Cost is not too much of an issue, a DA engine will help with that.

AC is for girls. I can handle the heat.

With help from spanner-hands we can reduce build time.

Speedbumps may be solved with adjustable ride height arms, one guy even did his hydraulic...

Registration, anyone know where to get info on kit car registration?

I am sure we can make the AC work better, insulate the rad pipe work, cabin etc. You can get airbags for coilivers

http://www.universalairsuspension.com/store2/catal...

So reg is the issue, i would check on the dubai peterol heads forum as there have been a few cobra kit builds
Problem is, she will need all the cooling those pipes can offer. It seems that they are prone to running hot, even in the UK....

I'm liking the coilover airbags....but not the price! And I don't think there is much room for the air tank smile

I quite like the SLC http://superlitecars.com/

The chassis is mono-alloy rather than the tube and it looks much easier to get in and out of. Seems a bit more build-friendly too.

Thoughts?

I know of an Ultima that is registered here on Dubai plates - not sure if it's the same one being discussed here. Wasta can get anything done if need be.

RTA are pretty open with low-volume cars nowadays - takes a bit of work, but can be done. I met the chap who's personally brought two Rally Fighters in from the States (ahead of proper sales starting through official channels at the end of the year) and he got the RTA to register the marque into the system after spending a bit of time finding the right person to speak to.
I have been in touch with the guy - its a limited Race Car Registration and is only really valid to and from the track. Go figure.

I might get in touch with the RTA. Surely there must be a procedure.....

Dan,

you have been through a lot of this heart-ache in the past with the "blue beastie" in terms of registration and getting it on the DA track.

Why go through all this again?
The Blue was never meant to be a road registered car so it was a big ask to think that it could be. I never even bothered trying.

The trouble there was with the DA specifying a car doing their (now failed) Auto-X thingy had to be road registered. And then for Track days it needed lights and covered wheels. 2 separate issues.

I'll look at registering kit cars and see where it takes me....

Now that is very encouraging, not just for classics and kits but for tuning and modified cars too.

At last the Max Power guys can come out of the closet....

The RTA got back to me.

Surprisingly by someone who showed a bit of interest; asked what manufacturer and what was going to power it.

We'll see...
