Is anyone (else) doing this?

I've done other HERO rallies but never the one dayer at Throckmorton in a couple of weeks. Really looking forward to it.

Just a bump for this, only a week away.

No other PHers (apart from Tony Tornado smile) doing this?

As a HERO or HRCR member the Throckmorton Challenge is £150 for the crew of two, not bad when you consider you're getting lunch x 2, dinner x 2, rally plates etc all inc.

I can't remember how much the ilkley Jubilee was.

Anyway, I'm a HERO fan now so they'll be getting my few bob happily smile

Now London-Lisbon in May, that's going to be pricey... wink

It went better than I expected actually.

We were never going to be challenging for top honours but we're both very competitive. From my seat it was the first drive of the car in anger, I've only had it for a couple of months. From my navigator's seat it was even tougher. I was doing the event in combination with Mission Motorsport. They're a charity that span out of Help for Heroes and focuses on getting wounded servicemen into motorsport. This was their first foray into classic rallying and it was a real baptism of fire smile

My navigator, Nathan, has never done this before. We were up against some very seasoned and experienced crews. We also did not have a trip and my tacho was reading 1.15 miles to the true mile!

So, with a couple of stopwatches and a lot of enthusiasm we got cracking. It turns out that the Parachute Regiment are really quite good with maps. We finished 11th out of 54 overall and came 3rd in our class of 7. Nathan got a bloody good reception, people couldn't have been more welcoming and helpful. My friends from the Scottish Malts gave him some good tips.

On the first regularity he got us round by dead reckoning with just 9 penalty points (seconds). In fact from the MTC to the first TC he nailed it bang on - 0 seconds!

I would urge everyone to go and have a look at their website ( www.missionmotorsport.org. They're not after your money, they're after opportunities for their blokes to get out and compete. Don't underestimate them for a minute, I've never met a novice navigator more serious, diligent and naturally talented than Nathan. I've no doubt at all that if he gets the practice he could put a car on the podium event after event.
