Have you ever been to Watergate Bay? It's stunning.

Also boasts an excellent hill, an ideally situated paddock and plenty of hotel / camping facilities. The event is also well supported and will attract plenty of spectators.

There's motorway and dual carriageway almost non stop from the South East and you can be there in around 4 hours.

I imagine local TV will be keen to offer some coverage. My eldest boy has his own media production company and if he's not still filming in Spain, he said he'll shoot some footage.

There are some terrific cars entered for this event. Hopefully it won't be too long till the final entry list is released but the available spots filled up pretty quickly despite being on a par with travelling to the moon evidently.

I'm doing an event at Shelsey next month. It's 239 miles away and about 4 hours but well worth the effort. Admittedly I'll have a numb arse by the time I get there but I don't trailer my E30. smile

I like travelling to events. I get to see places and meet people that I wouldn't otherwise. There's something about driving the car you compete in to an event and home again too.

Back to Watergate Bay, if this weather holds it'll make for a fantastic weekend and well worth making the effort to attend. It's a beautiful part of the North Cornwall coast and there are plenty of local campsite, BnB's etc. I imagine there will be pretty large numbers of spectators which has to be a good thing when it comes to raising the profile of club level events like this.

I've got an accepted entry for both days! woohoo Hopefully this event will be the first of many in the country. Competed at St Goueno in France for the past few years & that's great smile
Will you be in your Escort? What class are you in?

Pictures?

I've been thinking about doing some of the events in France and Sweden. They're another level compared to what we have had here. Hopefully though, UK events will improve now?

Hi, Yes, using the Escort in Rally Car class. smile

Looks great.

Can I ask what sort of spring rates you run on tarmac? (ballpark)

Hi, 145lb multi leaf slippers at back with 6 link, 190lb fronts. Very similar to original works spec. & a lot softer than most! rolleyes
My M3 is too hard on the rear and way too skittish on tight turns. I prefer cars that are a little softer myself, especially on less than smooth surfaces. I'm not sure I will have time to experiment with some new spring rates before Watergate though. Mind you, I only do it for fun and I'm up against far quicker cars and drivers. smile

Well the spectator information is now available on the event website, as is the final entry list.

http://www.watergatebayhillclimb.co.uk/wp-content/...

Spent a couple of days filming over at Watergate this week, so got to drive the course a few times and I'm really looking forward to the event. If honest, I was a little underwhelmed when the course was unveiled but it's actually pretty technical and should be great for both drivers and spectators alike.

There does appear to be a few disgruntled applicants among local clubs though. I guess with only 90 places available there was always going to be some disappointed people.

Just 3 weeks to go now! smile

Looking forward to seeing (and hopefully speaking with) Charlie Martin about entering some European hillclimb events. Some of the French and Swedish ones look awesome and there's a much stronger support for speed events over there.

Seems there are at least 3 E30's entered, as well as a brace of BMW Compact. There's also a Pikes Peak RS200 with around 1000 bhp driven by Liam Doran.

I have spectated on a number of European hillclimbs in recent years and they are a real spectacle. The quality and size of the entries together with some of the closed roads they use all make for a superb event. http://www.hillclimbportal.com/
I've done St Goueno for past few years, brilliant! smile

What licence do you need to enter? I assume non-race Nat B isn't enough?

Any National A or higher. smile
Thanks. I'm going to look into upgrading over the winter. We already have a VW T5 so only need a trailer and to convince my Mrs that some of these events make perfect holiday destinations. smile

Come & say hello at Watergate! smile
Shall do. I'm looking forward to seeing your Escort. I had a few years when RS2000's were my preferred choice of car. Also had a 1600 Sport with X pack arches and hot 1660 crossflow. I just love 2 door saloons from the 70's and 80's.

Weather forecast (which I've been watching obsessively) is looking pretty good for Saturday but Sunday has some showers early morning and again at lunchtime. I have everything crossed that it stays dry though, as I just don't like the wet and nor do Nankang AR-1.
