Renewal without having raced

Hi all hopefully easy question,, I’ve just this week completed my Nat b ards and have licence on route, stupidly I assumed they were valid yearly from when you apply but notice it’s jan to jan so need to renew for next year.

My plan is to get my car sorted/built as always my intention to race as of next season just really wanted to get the test etc done this year before buying all the relevant safety equipment.

Is it just a case of paying a renewal fee come December? So no test/medical again? As will have no proof of competing this year.
