wanted to show latest project. one picture is of the new 8 into 1 headers now ceramic coated. the next picture shows the new air box which is installed into the hood. The rubber seal that lands on the plate that surrounds the air horns is missing in this picture. Airfilter is a K/N Dallara Indy car appox 16 inches by 22 inches. The heat shield materiel makes it a bit tuff to see but I think you will get the idea. Lee

the box on the throttles is how we did it before but hiding the 8 stack with the carbon fiber horns was ...... disappointing from a visual presentation perspective. the seal this way is substantial the edge of the plate has a female roll in it that the rubber gasket on the airbox fits into. Lee

yes the headers are timed to firing order. Started it today for the first time...OMG.. sounds like an old cosworth, what a hoot a 4000 rpm sounds like Lemans, video tape to follow when we get it on the dyno next week. Lee

trying to upload a 1006kb video file of the new headers running on the dyno. The web site keeps telling image not found. Am I missing something simple. Lee

thanks for the suggestion guys. F.C., when i first saw PITA in your suggestion I was wondering about the relationship between People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and the guys on this web site,but after some consideration it became clear that some of the clowns on here are animals so go figure. once again I have proven my incompetence with computers I posted a video on Utube with the title of Ultima Gtr on dyno with 8 into 1 headers. Tried to put the link on here and it did not work but its there. I have some other videos of different RPM ranges I will try to post. Lee

yes there is a lot of tire noisein the sound track no way around that on the dyno. working on a driving video. At freeway speeds on cruise throttle the thing is very nice, very livable noise level and the quality is absolutely over the top. lee

Lost a few horsepower at the peak put wound up with a much flatter torque and horsepower curve. Torque is now virtually flat from 3500 to 5100 rpm. Horse power only varies by 55 hp from 3900 rpm 6300 rpm. Redline on this engine is 7200 rpm. What the headers did was but a lot more area under the curve by bringing up both the low end and top end with a 5-10hp loss at the very peak. Car is a lot more driver friendly and probably a bit quicker on a road course because you only cross the peak values for a limited amount of time. So if you come off a corner at 3600 rpm yes you will be down a couple of percent at 4200 rpm the old peak but you,ll have greater values everywhere else. lee

Chris yes at full chat it makes noise like a 1990 leman's car. if you look closely we left a flange on the end of the tail pipe to mount a super trapp. fortunately for me the tracks that I visit Willow Springs and Auto Club Speedway or in the future Button Willow do not impose noise limits. As far as street use goes the system is reasonable as long as your not in it to win it. Lee

The primary pipes are 1.75 transitioned to 1.875 at 18 inches from the port. The reason the primaries look small is the size of the tail pipe. The muffler has a 4.5 inch I.D. Air flow through a pipe is geometric a single 4.5 inch pipe will easily outflow a 2 x 2.5 inch system. restriction in this system is not an issue. Lee

Chris: Timing on a 8 into 1 is independent of length. The timing is set by clocking the pipes in firing order. Each pulse in order is preceded by the tube next to it. The issue of diameter of the tubes was discussed with the builder Greg Holman who has built headers since the 1970s for everything from Indy to Nascar. His input was for the street where a lot more is involved then just wide open throttle these tubes for this motor would be going backwards in overall performance if sized larger. This is a 383 cu inch L.S. 565 HP at the crank. So a ls 7 at 427 cu inches might use bigger tubes.The only caveat on this header set up is the configuration of the engine dictates that the primaries are a little longer than what you would do in a perfect world. Stefano: Certainly if I had a 180 header system on the car I would not change it to a 8 into 1, not enough difference to justify the change. But starting from scratch I like the 8 into 1 better than the 180s, because of the idle quality. I had a Pantera with 180s on it and it never sounded good until you hit about 3000 rpm from there up all was well. As far as power goes if you look at page 2 on this subject 8 posts down I speak about that a bit. As far as your English goes its a hell of a lot better than my Italian, I for one always get the idea of what your saying on your posts. Lee
