Hello everyone,

I have another question about my Can Am. The car has a gearbox Getrag G96 / 00 with gear ratio of origin, and final group of origin (3.44). With this final gear ratio the change seems almost unusable from first to third (very short), being also the sixth to my taste too short too.

Does anyone know or know where I can buy a final 3.00 or lower final ratio for this box?

In case this is impossible, what do you usually do?

Searching the internet I have only been able to find this company ... but they do not reply to my mail ...

Thank you and greetings.

Thank you Graham for your help. It is very useful.

Yesterday I mailed CMS and they were very quick to reply and now I have a quote (final group 3.00) with shipping (I live in Spain).

Do you, or any of you, know how hard is (change final ratio) to do by my mechanic? Or I have to look for an gearbox specialist to do the job? How many hours do you think will take?

Thank you

Gisleno

Good question.

I have to look if it has. Really I do not know.

If it has LSD, makes harder the change?

I need to check your G96 is actually the same box as mine (it's the gt2/gt3 version I have), as I have a custom made final drive for it on the shelf that I've never used (and probably never will).

I had it spec'd to give a genuine easy 200+ mph and nice cruising speed in top gear.
Andy, do you mean the exterior gearbox (measurements)?

What is the final ratio of your custom final drive?

if you have no experience, you do not do it.
It is a very delicate question.
gears must be very precise between them.
otherwise, hiss, and then destroy all the gears, as well as something worse ... during run.....
Yes, I agree. if it is finally done, will do my mechanic, not me.

I'm on holiday so just looking at my iPad and thus just relying on my memory, I can't recall what versions of the G96 exist, I seem to remember it was just the GT2/3 or if different versions existed.

I have Both a gt2 and gt3 box and they are G96s, so the final drive I bought fits them... The final drive I had wasn't an off the shelf and is quite long and thus extends the gearing on all gears including 1st... Pretty sure from memory it gives 25mph or less per 1000 rpm in top gear. However I do need to check my files.

I did this as I ran a canam with a 4 speed box and a very long final drive (212mph at 7000rpm) and it was fantastic in all but the top gear as the Rev drop from 3rd to 4th was a bit big imo
Thank you Andy for the info. Please, contact me when you finish your holidays.

Have fun!

3.1:1 ratio

The G96 has the same bell housing bolt pattern as the old G50's... its basically a beefed up G50 with cable shift and was used in the GT2/3 and the twin turbo 996's.... as long as this is the box you have its the correct one.
Thank you Andy, I will ask to my mechanic and I tell you something.

Hi Andy,

It seems that the Final group G96/88 does not fit to a G96/00....
