Ultima GTR vs. FFR GTM?
Discussion
I stumbled across this Factory Five GTM kit, and it looks strikingly similar to the Ultima GTR kit (Chevy V8 power plant + Porsche transaxle.) I haven't seen a direct comparison between these two cars, so I thought I'd start a thread
At first glance, at 20K US for the GTM kit, then slap on some C5 Corvette parts, engine and a Porsche transaxle, you have yourself a complete supercar at the tune of 30-45K US. That sounds too good to be true!
I think the GTR looks better, but this price point is really attractive. The interior looks fairly complete too. Does the GTR outperform with identical engine/transaxle setup? (I have yet to see performance details on the GTM.)

Thoughts from the Ultima crowd?

I'm interested in performance comparisons. Will the Ultima outpace the GTM in every aspect with a comparably equipped engine/transaxle? It's just speculation until we see some definitive results from the GTM, such as 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, 0-100-0, lateral g, top speed, track results, etc.

Notwithstanding that the GTM looks like the b*stard son of a GT40 and a Ferrari...
I nearly spit my drink. That's funny!I like the look of the GTR frontend better than the GTM. However, I do like the look of the GTM from the rear, it doesn't look as "fat" as the GTR or C5. But being a fan of the Ferrari, I may be biased

Another company that I came across while researching Ultima and it's potential in the States is Born AutoWorks.

I corresponded with them and rcvd some pictures under an agreement of confidentiality and just let me say....."WOW"! Very impressive design...just gorgeous.
Expect more info soon.

Looks like the GTM got an article in Car and Driver, Here are some performance results:
Engine: Z06 LS7 (505 hp)
0-60: 3.0s
0-100: 6.6s
0-150: 15.2s
1/4 mile: 11.0s @132mph
70-0: 166ft
200ft skid pad: 1.05g

Here is a cost estimation breakdown of a GTM build found on the GTM forum.
http://www.ffcobra.com/forums/showpost.php?p=713359&postcount=13
It's a pretty broad margin, as one would expect. You could claim it is a 40k kit car, but 55-75k is probably more realistic.

One glaring difference between the GTR and GTM is that the GTR is a complete build (every nut and bolt minus engine/trans-axle), vs. the GTM which requires a donor car to complete it. When you factor in a donor car, you add big questions marks to the sourcing of parts, as well as the cost and quality of them. This is probably where the majority of the build costs come into play. Your car is only as good as the parts you put into it, and I would think the Corvette donor parts are going to be a grade of quality lower than the Ultima parts right from the get go.
To me, when I think "kit car", I immediately think "donor parts", which is why it is hard to lump an Ultima into the "kit car" category. The GTM however, is plainly a kit car.

All,
Its been a while since posting, but just completed a couple videos for your viewing pleasure.(also posted this in the kit car section)
First is a short video of me autocrossing the GTM.

The second, is of track footage of the two factory GTMs at Pheonix International Raceway. The black car has a stock G50-01 with a stock LS6, the red car has a stock LS7, with a GT2 transaxle.

Regarding the second video, get rid of that background noise! We want to hear those engines! Otherwise good Its been a while since posting, but just completed a couple videos for your viewing pleasure.(also posted this in the kit car section)
