I'm thinking of using the 930 Turbo gearbox in my Ultima since it seams to be the only box withing my budget than can hold the torque and power that my engine will deliver.

The information that I can source tells me than the Ultima drive shafts can be used but maybe the gear linkage has to be modified (I have center mounted shifter). What kinds of mods is needed to make this transaxle to work in our cars?

Best regards,

Yep I have the 930 box in mine... was a pain in the A$$ to fit but the adapter/ringgear and flywheel are all available from Kennedy.

The biggest development issues were the gearchange mechanism and the coversion of the cable clutch operation to hydaulic. Sourcing the correct drive shafts will also be a challenge as the 930 uses a different output flange bolt patern to the G50 so the std drive shafts won't fit.

I only went for this box due to it's strength and IMHO more favourable gear ratio's.... cost wasn't a factor and I would say I suspect I could have done a conventional G50 for less!

Thanks for your answer. I just picked up a 930 transaxle

The Driveshafts fit without a problem and it seams that the bolt pattern on the bellhousing is the same as the G50. Strange...

However it's obvious that the shifter linkage needs modification since the 930 gearshange works like a mirror compared to a G50. Since I have center gear shift linkage the simple solution would be to let the shaft exit on the passanger side of the engine and just live with that first gear is where second gear usually is. Like so many sports cars had in the past...

How did you build your linkage? Did you fit the hydralics inside the bellhousing or on the outside? Pics would be interesting...

Thanks,

Thats funny as the two 930's I have have a diffent bolt patern to the G50, (I will be going out in the garage later to check though).
The drive shaft flanges are also different, this may be odvious but the drive shafts from Ultima have different size CV joints each end.
My 930 box's both have the same pattern as the ones on the hubs so the drive shafts needed to be the same both sides.

I can send you pics of my clutch mechnism, E-mail me through this site and I will reply.

One final thing, would 1st really be were 2nd is normally or will it end up were 4th is? (ie totally reversed h pattern.)

Andy

I haven't measured the bolt pattern on the G50 since the bellhousing on my G64 transaxle is destroyed but it sure looks the same. I guess I will make my own adapterplate anyway or just buy it from kennedy so the boltpattern doesn't matter that much.

I tested the axles on the 930 yesterday and the fitted perfectly. Very strange, maybe the gearbox I found where altered to fit a G50 conversion or something?!

Since I only have had the transaxle for a few houers I haven't done all the thinking regarding the linkage yet but I guess that my first thouth was wrong regardig the "twisting" motion. It doesn't change buy just moving the linkage from one side to the other

Hmmm I must do some more thinking...

Please send pics of your solution to mikael@kenson.nu

Mikael !

Can I only ask you?, I'm saving funds, planning engine and so on for a build.
I've also had contact with swedish authourities for registration.

How are you registering the car ?
The only way I've found is as an amateur built car, and then the power to weight ratio can only be 15kW/100kg. It seems as if your opting for more power than that....

Personally I don't have ambitions of such a powerful car as 600+, or even 300+. In my case I don't think the cost and consequences will be worth the effort.

And it's none of my business how you manage to get the car on the road. But I was just wondering if there are other ways to register the car in Sweden, other than as a amateur built car through SFRO ?

Good Speed !

The only solution is to get yourself two engines, one for show and one for go...
