I'm moving from Rio to Bangkok in October. Just putting out a feeler for any Pistonheads in Bangers. I'd be interested to hear about cars / bikes to buy, track days, good driving roads, group drives, bikes, moped racing....... or any other elicit goings on.

Great. Beer and gear talk. I'll miss this one as I arrive around oct 14. But line me up..... Yes, some cowboy window shopping also. Need a new Stetson (0;

I just spent 6 years in brazil which had 200% import tax on vehicles. Making me the not so proud owner of a bullet proof Toyota fielder. That's not bullet proof as in strong.

I'm taking a sea shipment from the uk and brazil. Is there anything I should throw in? Whiskey? Caterham?

Good stuff. Im flying in for a week on the 25th aug to look for some digs. Probably sukamvit or similar.

I've been looking at the dissasembled caterham option. It looks do'able but im struggling for time before my shipment leaves. It seems like you say tax is high for assembly and use legit on the road. Track use or illegal road use are two options. I was wondering if you export the car when you leave will you get the tax back.

Humped i missed the night out. Although my Rio leaving parties are starting to show. Ilost the hours of daylight this weekend

Great pointer on the 6 months tax window. I have to buy all new stuff. It looks like TVs, stereos etc are cheaper in the UK (?) anything else that stands out?

Ive decided not to ship the car. Old esc with a silvia engine sounds right up my ally.

Good stuff. Changing tack a wee bit, but as OE im allowed (;

Ive been trawling through the Thai smalls looking for a cheap bucket. Top of the steaming pile has been the Supra, RX7 and 200sx but it looks like they have all done the rounds and some are even too moded for me. Then, depite being a raving hetrosexual i started to look at 6 yr old roadsters, z4 and s2000....... Then i came across this

..is it 3.2m bhat? If it is, and its genuine, its a bargain. They go upwards of 80kGBP

Thoughts on the cars please

That 3.2 pertains to the engine size I believe mate.

Not long now until you're our newest member!
yep, 3 weeks. Im stoked about arriving but in a panic about leaving my life in Rio.

mmmph, you are right. 3.2 Engine. I thought i`d found a loophole in the absurd prices.

I did manage to source a bike. The new CB500x is made in Thailand and comes in at the same as the UK price of 4300 GBP otr. Here in Rio it's 7500GBP!! Result #1

These are often put together in parts by people who don't really know what they're doing, and quite often stolen in Japan or elsewhere.

My colleague and I have these conversations nearly daily and the best bang for your baht consistently seems to be the Nissan GTR, which you can now pick up for around 4 million.
The last thing i need is some knock off motor from a Thai / Japan triad gang hustling cut n' shuts. I would have hoped i learned from past mistakes including the 09 favela drug gang bicycle /AK47 incident.....

The GTRs for 4mil are R34s? I always hankered after a Jap boosted R33. They look cheap n cheesy in BKK. Just my style.

Count me in for any group jalopy track project. Im a grease monkey. Heard of any rallying or similar near by?

i'll take the advice and stop obsessing about my BKK car and get a mad max thunderarse truck. im just sick of jalopy driving in Rio for 5 years for similar reasons but have to agree a DGaF truck stops the plebs playing silly buggers.

the AK47 / bike incident? Well, it happened with these characters, 5 mins before they got themselves involved in this ststorm

Sounds like the BKK PHs gatherings are full throttle. A month of Rio leaving parties, then a week with whisky soaked family in Scottish Highlands then you bunch... Forget the car, ill spend my coin on a liver transplant

I hit the meeting room 5mins late at 07:30, eyes like peeholes in dirty slush of a Carlisle laybye. A meeting request just popped up on my screen alerting me that i have a company "Welcome to Thailand Cultural Awareness" training sess this afternoon. That box was surely ticked last night me thinks.

I have been milling over my "Modern Engineering Material Selection" handbook this morning, drawn to the silicon compound chapter. Its amazing you know, the compressive strength, tensile yeild, elasticity, maleability... mind you, books are no substitute for field studies

problem solved. I am now the owner of a Yamaha sx 125 in "Yam racing colours". The dealer told me it was the best tool for the Farrang because of it's beefed up suspension and elongated seat fit for a Brasilaira bunda. Its even got a whisky bottle storage rack on the front and a hidie hole for a 1/2kg hammer..... now, where did i put my organ doner card

Thats a nasty dent in the motor. Im guessing insurance is not an option (?)

i`ve managed to clock up a couple of hundred ckicks of BKK urban riding on my steed and lessons learned so far are: -
1) Always let a Thai take off 1st at the lights
2) Never change direction against the flow
3) The Nuru-gell-like substance in front of Comwboys or Nanas is not to be braked upon
4) Dont try and ride through the protests. If you get caught up in one, park up and join in like you mean it untill the riot police arrive
5)Dont get in a spat with a taxi driver
