(Updated this first post again with fresh pics)

Just for the love of big buttons, memories of dimly lit dancing needles, LED's and shiny things, I have had a "what the hell" moment and have so far collected this lot..

Anyone else enjoy such things?

Have a Pioneer record deck, but also a larger sized GEC one which fits the cabinet better.

Hi-Fi rack is Pioneer and cost me £1.

Sadly, my black anodised Technics gear probably mostly qualifies to be retro now!

My mp3 player certainly does biggrin

I had that exact same skin for winamp for ages. That was years ago now!

Would be interested to see some more pictures smile

Well, it has begun..will get some more pics up later...

I collected the speakers and the CD yesterday and had the amp delivered in the week. The amp is lovely! Exactly the sort of thing I wanted with a nice retro coloured blue light show, lovely chunky buttons and that reassuring feeling of resistance and a noticeable but dampened 'click' when the knobs are turned.

The Bang & Olufsen Beovox speakers still sound and look fantastic which is quite incredible seeing as they were produced in 1967! They are made from Brazilian rosewood veneer apparently and have lovely metal and fabric speaker covers with brass poppers to hold it all in place. They don't build them like this any more!

The CD player came in its original box and even has the working remote control.Back in the 80's, this would have been quite an expensive item and it still works fine and even plays CDR's perfectly.

I missed out on some lovely ADC graphic equalisers, but have a Realistic brand one on order now. Will update later for those interested.

Oh, I also had a bid running on a Technics tuner and won that, so I will now have two tuners and will decide which I prefer when they arrive.

If your amp doesn't have wood veneer then it's not retro enough for me I'm afraid!
Some lovely stuff out there I agree.I just wanted to go the silver route to remind me more of my youth smile

There's a lack of excitement in HiFi these days with touch buttons etc. Not sure I've got any pictures, I'll have a look.
I agree. My love for this sort of thing is the reason my garage would be full of old cars if the lottery finger pointed at me.Would be nice to see some pics if you get time.

It's quite an eye opener when you look into this stuff. You can come across cassette decks selling for £500+ and record decks selling for a few thousand! I won't ever be spending that much, but it's suprising what you can get for a few hundred quid.

Here is a my Panasonic receiver with speakers I bought from a charity shop.
Nice! What a funky looking thing that is beer

Still waiting for my tuner, graphic, cassette and a deck, but I set it up today to have a listen and update the pics. The speakers weigh a ton and despite being the cardboard type of cones (I assume that's all there was in 1967!) they sound really very nice indeed. From CD with some older style music playing, there is a warmth to them that I haven't really experienced before. They also had a feature where you could plug in a seperate tweeter on the rear to position it somewhere else.Pretty advanced stuff for 40+ year old items.Everything works just fine and when you insert a cd into the cd player, it takes only about one to two seconds to scan it and display the tracks ready for you to hit play. Not bad at all!

Cheers smile

No idea how loud the amp would be, but it goes up to ten on the volume knob and set on number 2 it's quite loud! I'm not going to give these speakers a heavy work out mind you, but they still sound nice and handle themselves well at a decent volume.I was quite suprised how nice the treble sounds, I was expecting them to be far more muffled due to the age of them. Can't wait for the other bits to arrive now.Like a kid in a sweet shop so I am hehe

I did a quick rough edit video.Obviously a lot of quality is lost as I was just using the video option of a Canon Powershot camera, but you can still hear how nice this old equipment is.

Great thread!

I pulled a Pioneer SX-590 receiver out of a skip with a seized tuning knob, freed off easily. I hook my iPhone up to the aux in and it drives some lovely period Castle Richmond speakers via mains cable speaker wire.

I also have one of these Pioneer Tx-606 tuners for sale if anyone wants it:
Lovely.I almost bought that tuner a week or so ago after seeing one for sale.I had a tuner already, but it looked nicer with the amp. However, I was bidding on a Technics tuner at the time to replace my original one in the pics at the start of the thread as that too looked nicer.I won it!.Now, having two tuners, I saw another on ebay that was quite specific for my amp made my Pioneer, so am now bidding on that lol.
