4K HDR10 TV choice
Discussion
From the Xbox one X thread, it seems that there are quite a few of us looking at new HDR10 capable TVs.
Seems silly to have a HDR10 gaming source into an old 1080 TV, thus the shopping.
Requirements wise, it's for my front room, which currently has a 55" LG 3D TV of 2013 vintage. So;
At the moment looking at the LG OLED55B7V or the Samsung UE65MU9000.
Pushing the budget a little, my local RS has a Samsung QE65Q8C.
Questions at the moment are are there any other models I should be looking at, and is there a large difference (£600 "worth") between the two Samsungs / the LG?
Thanks

- same size if not slightly bigger,
- budget is 1500-2k range, however would rather have a decent return then throwing money at something as its the newest sparkliest gimmick.
- on board audio isn't important as its offloaded onto a Marantz receiver / Monitor silvers
- not fussed by smart / having Netflix etc on the TV as its all handled already by a different source.
- doesn't have to be able to read from network storage, as that's handled by the receiver too.
- needs to be slightly raised due to having the Monitor center speaker in front of it. (18.5cm tall..)

So from my looking, I have the LG OLED B7 at £1700 55/65 £2700, or the Samsung QE65Q8C at 65 / £2400 (should be £3.5 but is exdemo).
Do you think the OLED 65 is worth more then the heavily discounted Samsung?
Or if Its better to stay at the £1700 level, stay with 55? at that price point, is the B7 LG the best bet? (as tbh I really dont need a 65. I don't understand the "hey look at my massive tv" when everyone sits 6 foot away from it anyway.)

There are a couple of threads on https://www.hotukdeals.com/ where you can get the LG OLED55B7V for around 1500 BTW. EDIT, the LG OLED65B7V 65 is £2429 from Argos with the TV10 promo code.
Both are out of stock so unavailable.varsas said:
The most noticable difference is with the black level. On an OLED black is completly black, on all LED based TV's it's a dark grey. This is less noticable in a bright room (e.g. a TV showroom), and in fact an LED's increased peak brightness can make them look more dynamic in that kind of environment. In a darkened room, when your iris opens up and is more sensitive to low light, the difference becomes more apparent and lends the OLED a much deeper picture, with purer colours. In bright rooms LED is the better choice. It depends how your TV is used really. My computer monitor is LED, and would be even if OLED were available. Having said that the difference between the OLED sets and LED's was very noticable in my local John Lewis, but as I've always said if you can't see what the fuss is about buy an LED and save yourself some money!
I found this from 4k.com very useful at describing the differences. Where OLED is each pixel can be turned on or off compared to LCD/QLED where its managed from the stripes of LEDs running along each edge. For example, LG OLED on left, Samsung QLED on right...
