My modest re-entry into listening to music instead of staring gormlessly at the TV.

Chrome bumper Nait 2 looks in lovely nick - very collectable now. I've got an immaculate 1988 Olive Nait 2 currently not used since upgrade.
Thanks Chap, they are great little boxes and a keeper in my analogue system...make sure you give yours a little love from time to time legzr1 said:
Getting there, just waiting for longer umbilicals to arrive to get the PSU for the mono-blocks off the floor.
Then the search for a rack to handle the weight. Thinking of some granite slabs for now.
KWs have grabbed the 800Ds by the balls making the sub in the corner just about redundant.

...this is insane, i would pay good money to play my favourite tracks on this set-up...
Ha! Thanks.I thought exactly the same looking at some of the systems here.
I’d really like to hear a top-notch valve system - all analogue, selected by someone who knows what they’re doing playing through large mega- sensitive speakers with lightweight paper drivers. Instant micro dynamics and warmth - 5W/channel max. Would make a great comparison to what I’ve ended up with and, no doubts whatsoever, would better it in certain areas.
Where are you based? I’ve got no problem playing a few tunes with like-minded folk. The only danger is that time passes so quickly. The seller of the KWs was only meant to be here fo quickly drop them off but we ended up still playing stuff 4 hours later. It only ended after my daughter rang reminding me I was supposed to be picking her up...
The buyer of my old Kefs travelled from the IOM and almost missed his ferry back after sitting listening and chatting for half a day!!
I have an old AR turntable I bought new over 30 years ago. It hasn’t been used in 15 years but now I’ve got a decent SUT built into the pre I might give it a go. Not sure where I’ve stored my vinyl though....
I’m going to have to make do with the 12wpc of the nait!
Second system is finished...digital only to compliment the analogue only in the lounge
Naim uniti Atom and a quiet pc i7 based machine running as a headless roon core. Tidal hi-if with hardware hard wired into Ethernet. iPad Pro as remote. 50m of Structural cabling is by chord to 4 termination points for placement options for Eclipse Td508mk3
Lounge system....

^^ Hugely so! This part of the house is an irregular shape, is open to further rooms and also has quite abit of glass. The room is a huge factor in the sound.
In my mind it does work and that’s got a lot to do with the speakers. The eclipse speakers are not very fussy when it comes to placement and their speed and accuracy works well with the music I tend to listen to. Also, you can really focus their sound to where you are sitting in the room to cut down the room’s effect. I know the eclipse range is not everybodies cup of tea but play to their strengths and they are magically little speakers.

Sony FH-7 mkiii with matching PS-Q3 half size fully auto record player....
And a FH-1000 with CD player...
Similar systems but quite different in their own way.
The FH-7 is fully modular, with the stack made up of 4 individual components with the LP or CD player ontop. Once stacked they are attached with side brackets which fix all the components in position and enable the speakers to hang onto the stack. The unit has a detachable handle. A boom box/ midi system hybrid, with the AC power pack it makes it one of the most powerful boomboxes of its time at 25wpc (it goes real loud!) There was a dc pack available which took 12 D cells, this would replace the AC unit so it became a full portable.
The FH-1000 is a 2 stack, again with detachable speakers and handle. The speakers are a little larger and it’s more midi than portable but it does have a dc in port on the back? It also has a pre-amp out on the back.

Interesting... Love this old gear.
Thanks chap. These date from the early 80’s and are nicely over Engingineered with metal casework, weighing over 15kg. I think Sony went all out to blow away the competition in regards to power...see this ridiculous period advert!https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tn8tlkPWNDI
^ yeah, lots of marketing BS going on in regards to the output. The Amp is rated at 25wpc, it doesn’t sound much but it has plenty of power for a small room (my nait 2 from the same era is 12wpc from memory), the 3 way speakers sound good and are nicely made, these pre-date the drastic drop in quality of these units in the 90’s. I think these retailed without the optional LP player at circa £500.00 in the early 80’s.
