We've had out current panny 42" plasma for a long time, still works perfectly but its not full HD and its about time it was relegated to the bedroom.

Problem is the screen is West facing right in front of a window. Probably the worst position as it also picks up all the reflections from outside. But, although it does get watched in the day at weekends its mainly evenings when its less of an issue.

Friends and relatives all have new TV's, all LED and TBH I find them disappointing. We have a newer 32" LG in the kitchen which is good as long as there is no direct light on it so a larger version is non starter in the lounge.

Obv. OLED would be ideal but only looking to spend about £800 and definitely not bigger than 50", viewing distance is 2.4m - 3.2m. Its going to be run off a freesat box, netflix and amazon on a 17mb connection.

Was thinking of a Samsung xxxNU8000?

Thanks all. Didn;t realise the Sonys were available <1K so will look at them more closely, always been a Sony (Trinitron) fan.

Any ideas if a new model is due this side of Xmas (which could drop the price more?)?

No rush to change, just have been redecorating, new kitchen etc and TV looks a bit "old".

Is the fact I am using a Humax freesat box through an AV amp to provide the picture a factor?

ie, freesatbox hdmi into av amp then hdmi from amp to TV?

Just ordered the Sony from TPS. Thanks for the comments and pointers everyone.

Had a look at it in currys alongside samsung, lg and panasonic. Obviously all the TVs are setup for demo but the Sony looked more natural and considering TPS is quite a bit cheaper with a 7 year warranty it seemed the logical choice. Did like the big OLEDs but £2K on a telly is wasted on me.

Hopefully it looks as good in daylight!

I think it was said they would match the 945 but not the 100 cash back?

Sold out last weekend but new stock in today, courier has called to say they will deliver Sunday afternoon and call to confirm a time on the day.

I'm out until last pm Sunday but kids are in so looks like it will be X-factor in proper HD for the first time!

Be worth keeping an eye on TPS. The price has just gone back up but they've done a cracking deal on mine and I believe the offer will be on there soon.

Pete, have sent you a couple of messages.

Courier called about 30 minutes ago to say he was about 100 miles away and could either get to us late or deliver to work address in the AM which is what was agreed.

TPS has not been 100% flawless but they and their couriers have followed the Toyota customer service model that made Lexus the success it was in the USA, ie. when things aren't 100% make them 200% by offering your customers more than they expect be it in terms of cost, convenience or service.

Looks like an afternoon fiddling with cables and wifi tomorrow.

All set up now but still need to find out how to regionalise the freesat guide (??)

I am actually very pleased and impressed. The image on an SD feed is okay, same as the old plasma really, HD is better as its full HD (my panny was 720). Colour balance is what I like (natural) and blacks are pretty much "black", I turned the brightness down from 35 to 30 straight away.

Netfilx and amazon in 4k are pretty stunning if I put my glasses on (!) other that than (to me) its a bit better than HD.

So in summary I have found a telly that is better than my eyesight and it fits perfectly in the room (wife actually just said it makes the room feel bigger!)

And in answer to my question, no I am not disappointed. In fact I'm very happy with my new TV.

So, thanks to all again and a big thumbs up for TPS.
