relocating AV equipment in cupboard?

Has anyone moved their AV amp and various TV connected things into a cupboard away from site?
Just wondering how practical it is and what extra kit might be required. The location will be just the other side of a wall where the TV itself will be.
Cable runs are no issue as it'll be part of some building work so it's just the technical side of things like I think you can get some kind of IR repeater?
