I was given a set of speakers some years back - and really like the sound out of them - moved house the other day - dusted then down and I see both cones are split where they join the foam..

Googled them - and it would seem they are a respected old speaker - seems to be £150 to replace the drivers.

Are they worth it?

Or do I spend £150 on a newer secondhand equivalent? If so what would the newer equivalent be???

Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Interesting - it’s quite a long split - 12 - 2.30 ish around the cone edge - no real loss in trying I suppose!

Looks like a bit of a job! - this one is a clean rip along the foam - the other one is the same but has a tear in the cone as well

A classic problem by the looks of the YouTube video’s

I might just go all out and replace with new

Interesting that old split drivers would be worth some money - suppose there would be an originality value to them.

Now I've started looking at Gumtree turntables...

All I have is an old K1 signature Marantz amp and a fairly recent Arcam DAC which I use to play full fat Spotify - which I think sounds fine given how useable Spotify is

But I also want to be able to play my old and small but specific record collection - seen a Project Essential II with pre amp - looks new - £120.. mmm

I’ve ordered new foam surrounds - £20 inc glue and shipping - lots of detailed instructions around - centring everything seems to be the key.

Lots of chat about capping the tweeter or something in audio land - which might be a step too far as I assume i’ll have to do some soldering - will see what it all looks like when I open them up - also putting steel plate inside the box..

Not sure if this is going to work!

'Borrowed' a set of old 90's floor standing ruark templar's while I fix them

Not convinced they sound as nice as the JPW's...
