Help selecting 4K TV
Discussion
I am looking to get a new TV, now I've got SkyQ as well, I suppose it best be 4K! Not to mention sports, prime & Netflix all pushing in 4K. I'm assuming they're all smart these days, so the firesick can go!
We currently have a 42", and I'm unsure if we jump up to the 5* sized TV's. The current one is way old with a thick bezel, so for not much more real estate I could jump to a 50", maybe a happy medium.
Seems OLED is not possible on 50", maybe not required? Also seem to be in excess of £1k. Is QLED better to go for?
I'd like to get a sound bar too, nothing fancy but just better sound that the built in. Generally I like Samsung, always been happy with them. I see RS have deals on soundbars when bought with a TV...
I asked, last night, what the OH thought a new TV would cost and she said 4 something, so I'd say that's a £499.99 budget
TL;DR
£500 budget
~50"
4K
LED or QLED?
Thin Bezel
Soundbar
current: 970 x 610 x 100
43' : 964 x 558 x 57
50' : 1116 x 644 x 60
55' : 1231 x 707 x 60

Either of those 2 options are doubling the budget! I can't justify spending that money when I'm ok watching what I've got really. I just want a new toy!
After a bit of looking, I've found this. Seems to tick all the boxes!

So, budget creep, this is PH after all..
Now trying to get a QLED, Samsung have this for £549, slightly smaller by 1" (whats 1" between mates?), but is QLED and 120Hz.
https://www.samsung.com/uk/tvs/qledtv-q67/QE49Q67R...
It also gives £200 off a soundbar, which means this is £299

Any thoughts?
Edit: apparently the Q67R is the Q60R but in silver...

Wow, a lot of chat! Thanks
I'm not comfortable buying anything but new, but I am willing to stretch a bit. You've made a clear point about the Q6* range, so I'm avoiding that.
What are you thoughts on the non QLED Samsungs, the TU8500 seems to be high spec for the LED range, but I'm no expert! No local dimming, but has UHD dimming, which means nothing to me! I can't seem to find reviews though.
The Q70 seems to be old, or no stock anywhere.
I am also limited to 50" by the space it's going in, so no chance with a 55"

Where exactly have you ordered it from as I can't find one online anywhere. I can find the XG, just not the XF.I need a new TV and this one could be ideal. Otherwise, it's save up a bit longer and buy the LG OLED 48CX.

The bloody apps! Can't have apps for BBC etc it's all under the Sony experience and you can't use itv C4 without youview but you can't use that without an Ariel and I don't have one!
You can sort out your home page, and there is a shortcut for the apps on the bottom of the screen you can add apps to as well. I plugged an aerial in for 30 seconds to get the apps to work. Many TVs are like this now with the apps.

Tried a length of coax out the window but no luck
It's shielded, so you need to get the core touching something that'll act as an antenna. All you've done is hung the cross section of the core out the window, so what 2mm squared?!
Just checked my Sky box and it's not HDR! FFS.

They should replace as part of an upgrade to UHD content - I amended mine very recently to add multi-room, UHD and roll my Netflix subs into Sky (also gaining UHD Netflix at the same time)Paid nominal amount for a new 2TB UHD main box plus a mini to plug into the plasma.
Note that Sky are a pain in the arse to get through to at the moment - there's a thread on here with some recent posts on costs and contact methods:

They're due to rock up to mine this Thursday, which is about 2 weeks after ordering

If the box isn't compatible with UHD they will automatically factor in replacement. You could argue that as you only got it very recently you should've been supplied with a UHD box by default (at least one of the 1TB options is UHD capable and seems to be handed out as the default choice). Probably an easier ask if you're happy with the 1TB box. My son has a tendency to record bucket loads of kids TV series, so I opted for the 2TB so I don't have to delete all the crud as frequently!
It is compatible with UHD, all Q boxes are, I thought. It's not got HDR, the newer boxes do. Annoyed that I signed up 2 months ago and sent old stock.Trustmeimadoctor said:

What box do you have?
Sky Q 2TB - 32B056I was on that page yesterday and didn't see the link. When you click and sign in, it is just a "register interest" type form, suggesting a £50 "Upgrade" cost for the HDR box.
I may message them expressing my annoyance and see if it becomes free £50 for HDR probably isn't worth it.

They only rolled out HDR at the end of May IIRC
I am talking with Sky now about the newer boxes, the lady says it was all delayed due to Covid.
God, painful talking to Sky. Apparently the box I have, is not the box I have. Their records show a 1TB box with HDR, but my box says different. So they are not playing ball. I can pay £50 to get a HDR box, but only if I have a 1TB box. They won't upgrade the 2TB boxes. Luckily their records show a 1TB box!
Still not going for it...

A mash rush to build the new TV unit last night to get the TV on it, finally got it setup at 10 last night and I'm blown away! Obviously sat and watched some Nat Geo stuff for an hour on UHD. I did play with the settings but soon gave up.
One down side is no screen mirroring from iPhone, but we've an AppleTV for that.

Yea, I've found a few. Just couldn't be bothered last night!
F1 UHD is setup on the planner too, can't wait.
Yeah, I'm being sucked in to the £10 on a rolling monthly contract thing - 8 races for £20 doesn't seem such bad value given the back-to-backs at the same tracks!F1 UHD is setup on the planner too, can't wait.
I'm awaiting Sky visit today - any time between 8am and 5pm, and no call yesterday to confirm arrangements. Assuming it'll be later in the day.
Only UHD content I've had to try so far is Netflix (but the audio is downgraded still, so not getting the benefit of the Sonos Arc)
