Which Sonos 'piece of kit' needed to connect amp & speakers
Discussion
Hi - the Sonos gear used to be so simple.....
I / we have :
Play:1: Dining Room
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 12.0 (build 58177280)
Play:5: Hallway
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 12.0 (build 58177280)
Play:1: Kitchen
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 12.0 (build 58177280)
Playbar: Lounge
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 12.0 (build 58177280)
Play:1: Office
Sonos OS: S2
Version: 12.0 (build 58177280)
And just recently brought over from the other house a reasonable Amp and Speakers (with DAC input) that is obviously a better quality sound.
Which "reasonably" priced device do I need to hook it in to the system. More than happy for a Second hand item- but would hope toget another 2-3 years out of it.
Does this put me in SONOS Connect? Connect:AMP ?
Gen 1 or Gen 2?
I see the Sonos Port, but too steep and overkill surely ?
Pointers or hell even a purchase of surplus kit welcome.

Thanks - and the generation of available? Are we on the cusp of a Connect becoming legacy ?(although I see that the threat of Legacy has been wound back a little.....
It seems Gen 1 Connects are circa £50 second hand, and a Gen 2 is £175... whats the differences, as it seems my Googlefu does not reveal.
The option for a Connect:Amp and Speakers appeals too in another room, so thanks for that.

You need a SONOS : PORT
The connect is the older, discountinued version, which will still work, it is more likely to become legacy soon / sooner.
The PORT has Phono and Optical Out. You can then use the optical to wire to either an external DAC or to the optical in of your amp and let that do the DAC conversion for you.
I have to say, with a good quality amp and DAC the sonos range does a good job, although I havent done any back to back testing with Tidal capable hardware either.
HTH.

I nearly reached out directly to you on the subject.
The Port is 'significantly' more than a Connect (which I happened to win in the meantime at £56) I will see how that goes and our using the room and look to the Port next upgrade and their prices perhaps soften.
