Pro-Ject T1 Phono SB turntable belt issue

Hello all

Just bought a new Proj-Ject T1 Phono SB turntable, as my old deck was really becoming an embarrassment.

Trying to set the bugger up and the belt is coming off the drive spindle. I set it up centrally (as per the scant instruction booklet) and give it a quick manual spin to make sure it all is good. When i then fire up the turntable, it starts to turn and you can see the belt rise up to the top of the spindle and pop off.

From the looks of it, the spindle doesn't look absolutely upright - as if it has a very slight tilt in towards the turntable itself.
Attempted photos (with the platter removed) - showing spindle as is, with the belt on and then right before it pops off

Any clues? Or is it s duff one from the start and i should be going back to the dealer?

Answers (to some of them) in no particular order...

Yes it is the SB version so has a switch to select 33/45 - although the 'manual' that came with it shows pictures with the old stepped pulley that you use to manually change the speed with.

No, there are no obvious adjustment screws underneath to alter the alignment of the motor

Yes there does appear to be some 'play' in the motor/pulley/spindle assembly, which doesnt fill me with confidence.

yes, it is new and as suggested, i will be packing it all back up and returning it

I was going to send it back to the place i bought it from, but then decided to take a closer look myself...

I unscrewed the black plastic shell that covers the motor assembly, and bingo - one of the mounting screws had come away partially from the underside of the board. I tightened it up (with a wee bit of thread lock on the screw) and all was good.

Its been faultless since - and gets heavy use on an almost daily basis.
