Are the image burn in issues still there with the new plasmas?Im looking for a tv around 42 inches for the living room that i may occasionally use the XBOX on.Would i be better off with an LCD?

Buying this new tv must be one of the most brain numbingly, frustrating things i've ever done.I've done so much looking, research online my head hurts, then i go into local electrical stores then my head hurts even more!Oh LCD is best for xbox,oh no it's not,oh yes it is!LCD tv,s last longer, then no they don't!Plasmas are better, plasmas use more power, then no they don't the power use fluctuates a lot on them and on 'average' works out roughly the same.Image burn isn't a problem now on Plasmas, then someone says it is??AAAAAhhhh!Im definetly Confused.com.So after a full 15 minutes speaking to a knowledgable salesman in PC world, yes,i know i've just used Pc world and knowledgable in the same sentence but he genuinely knew his stuff, well, until he dropped a clanger.
Bearing in mind i've spent an eternity trying to convince my other half to get a new TV,the chat with this guy was going great, until at the very end of the conversation just when i was ready to get the cash out of my pocket to get an LG 42 inch plasma (pq6000 model)he slips in that the life of plasma tv,s is around 3 and a half years! my missus' face dropped and all my working on her had frizzled out to bugger all!Now even though i had read the lifespan of new plasmas is reported to be around the 60,000 hours plus mark it was still enough to scupper all my hard work.As soon as we got home i started showing her all the lifespan comments i had read,i think i might have won her round a bit but you never know though, tomorrows another day!

The LG i was looking at i was managing to find fantastic reviews, and prices for it all over the net, best price £470!!!Can't be bad for a 42 plasma,pc world was £579 though.Tried to haggle a bit with my head full of online prices but they weren't having it!:-)I'll look into the Panny!

If longevity is a worry (which it shouldn't be), go to John Lewis and get a 'free' 5 year guarantee. Though I would also echo the comment about going to Digital Direct for second-to-none service...

ETA why you'd go to PC World and expect a competitve price for a telly anything is beyond me smile

Pc world obviously isn't my first choice for anything lol,but it's just i saw they were selling a Samsung 42 inch online for £420!Otherwise i wouldn't even have went there, plus they're only 5 miles away.Longevity isn't really a concern either it was just a topic of conversation that cropped up with the salesman.Only reason i went to any 'real world' shops was to show my missus that 42 inch wasn't really that big!
