Why is everyone so obsessed with Top Gear?

And why does everyone take Clarksons word as gospel? I.e. you can't be a petrolhead because you haven't driven this or that, or this particular car is crap when in actual fact, it's an OK car, he just doesn't like it.

Have some people lost the ability to think for themselves? Or did they ever have it to begin with?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not "anti" TG. I watch it myself, mainly because there's naff all else on TV and it makes me larf, but I take everything on it with a pich of salt. My original point is why do so many people take anything that's said on TG as gospel?
