Before they were famous
Discussion
It always interests me when I watch old things and a face pops up, sort of recognisable, younger and leaner, then it disappears because it's a walk on three or a bit part.
Recent ones I have spotted.
Recent ones I have spotted.
- A very young Jonny Lee Miller as a leather clad love interest of Onslo's wife in Keeping Up Appearances
- Viggo Mortenson in Witness
- Jake Gyllenhaal as the kid in City Slickers
- Tom Hardy as 'Hi I'm character A' who promptly gets blown up seconds later in Band of Brothers.

I don't know who any of these people are. Are they REALLY famous?
Yes they REALLY are to those that watch films and don't have Alzheimer's. The last three place amongst the top echelon of stars in the Hollywood firmament.Jonny Lee Miller's star has dropped recently though, he was a big name around 8 years ago.

It was Neighbours that launched Guy Pearce' career, apparently 496 episode, was in it for 3 years.
Yeah, he was pretty big in it so I don't think it is the same as the rest.Johny Depp had already starred in Nightmare On Elm Street before Platoon.

I heard somewhere in the dim and distant past, that Harrison Ford was a carpenter building sets, and George Lucas 'spotted' him and ended up giving him the role in Star Wars?
Or did I dream it?
It's true. By then Ford had already 'starred' in The Conversation and American Graffiti. He learned carpentry as a trade for when acting dried up. Worked out well for him.Or did I dream it?

I’m sure I read somewhere that HF had returned to carpentry after American Graffiti but had remained friends with George Lucas. GL was determined to cast actors he’d not used before in Star Wars and asked Harrison to help him in the auditions by reading with the prospective actors- during this process GL realised that he was perfect for the character of Han Solo.
That's how I recall it. He had had limited success at acting but everyone needs drawers.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
