Great video, and i think the S1 is probably the coolest car in his collection! Totally honest in everything it does!

(and they should have tried the field hill climb in the wet (RRS, fat tyres and wet grass = fail... ;-)

I always found S1s to be a right PITA to keep the brake and clutch working properly. With the linkages in the front wheel well and the master cylinders slung under the floor of the cab, all the (off)road muck gets thrown into those parts regularly. I had one in once for service where the brake pedal had seized to it's pivot and didn't really do much at all (luckily, brakes are kinda optional on them ;-)

(later S2/3/defenders sensibly moved the pedals up to overhung types that put the mech parts high up on the bulkhead in the engine bay, and a lot more out of the way)

Nice car but I really hope this doesn't turn into a JLR promotion channel. :-/
I hear SVO have a new home now too......... ;-)

I don't think he's a very good presenter, and he manages to make an interesting subject (cars) very dull.

I want to like him, but I'm struggling.

The video announcing the name change was odd. He wants to make content he wants the way he wants, hence the Car Pervert thing. Fair enough.

But then he does a Boris Johnson and u-turns the whole lot, effectively saying he wants to make content for the viewers and get sponsors. The two don't fit. So he's now doing content that sells and tickles the algorithms to make the sweet sweet moolah he needs.

Fair play to him on that. But be straight and honest about it.

Anyway, Harry. Enjoyed the video about the roads. Less so the Aston Martin.
Its probably down to him doing YouTube content as a full time job. I think initially it was to do his own thing but to get the sponsors/viewers you have to change and adapt. Obviously the original name was causing more hassle than it's worth so why not change it. At least he will retain it for some other things, he says.

An old one but I just watched the Artic Circle trip in the Rolls - great video !

Definitely a road trip I'd want to do, and some great shots at the end of the Rolls under the Northern Lights.

Top Gear and Grand Tour are also formulaic - with Top Gear it's the presenters gurning and whooping whilst endlessly and pointlessly drifting.

Harry's formula works for me. Informative and down to earth - don't change a thing Harry! You've got it just right. smile
Agreed.

I used to love too gear. Watched the first episode of grand tour the other day and almost threw up it was that bad a start with them standing on stage in the desert with a fake crowd in front of them. Three massive wallopers. Ok James May isn’t that bad but it’s the company he keeps that drags him down.

Harry’s garage is the only car show worth watching now imho. Jay Leno has some interesting stuff on sometimes.

Harry will no doubt have a long list backed up and waiting to go when they are finally able to take to doing euro/African touring again.

I love the fact that he has all this exotics and a little Clio 182 trophy tucked in there with the collection and all the Dakar and enduro bikes to boot.

That’s all very well and I enjoyed the review by Harry. But LR really do have an absolutely terrible reputation for reliability which would put me right off actually buying one if I was in the market.

I think you need a little lie down.
The hype around this car is ridiculous. Lord Benny should watch the Henry Catchpole review of for a little balance.

Every time I see the Jag I think BRG, all the way.

But then, a burnt orange, almost copper colour, with a vinyl roof and dark wheels - even wide steelies... ooooh. (My inner chav is peeking out there)

The condition of that Jag underneath made me wince, made me fear for the terrors lurking in my old car. That little hidden I-beam to support the jacking point was as ingenious as it was worrying!

But, I have to say, absolutely inspired choice for the colour. It's beautiful.

HG is the only motoring TV Mrs OB will watch (although she enjoys HF too, she's ex-farming stock). She says she always comes away from it having learned something, even though she has no interest in cars.

How much does a restoration like this cost? I appreciate the estimate would be wide. £50k?

I think in the first video where he dropped it off he was given a ballpark estimate of around £15k, but that would have snowballed vastly since then with what has been uncovered since and I would say at least double that, probably more.
My bare metal bodywork restoration with them, and it wasn’t as bad as this one. Has come up at about 40k just for bodywork and paint.
Quite close to my finger in the air then! Having just had £800 worth of paint on one of my cars, with only mild surface rust to deal with, I can see how the cost rapidly mounts up where welding is introduced.

I suppose the thing is, they don't really sell new cars like this any more. If they did, you'd probably be paying a lot more than what this restoration will cost. And it'll be tax/MOT etc exempt too smile
It's worth the money to make it as-new for less than the price of a 4 cylinder F Type. What can you even buy new with a V12 and manual gearbox these days?
Absolutely agree. I was not suggesting it was too much to save the car! Just idle curiosity over the cost.
