Watched the first 2 episodes so far and very impressed. They've got the tone just right, the script and acting are good and the fight scenes are really well done. Especially impressed with the single shot fight scene in the corridor at the end of episode 2, very Oldboy/Raid in execution and deserving of respect as much harder to do than the modern shaky/jumpcut style employed so often nowadays.
Looking forward to the rest of the season.
Edit to add - The first 3 minutes of episode 3.
Someones definitely been watching The Raid 2, and was paying attention.
The beginning of episode three is the point when I realised it was more than just quite good.Looking forward to the rest of the season.

I am up to episode 8 now and I'm already disappointed that there are only 13 episodes..
This is a problem when re-telling stories written 50 years ago. By now it's a predictable cliché. But the alternative is a 'reboot' origin story every time you tell the story, usually with diminishing effectiveness.
I like this approach of sticking with the original story, and tell it as well as you can. Predictability is less irksome than implausibility for the sake of originality.

I thought it was excellent, has there ever been a really well done super hero series like this before?
I don't think there has. They've done well to keep so close the source material, rather than feel the need to adapt to a 'target demographic'. This really was the Daredevil from the comic books. Halb said:
Daredevil got pretty dark and grim in the 70s.

I think he was one of the first to do it, which gave rise the the later darker versions of various popular characters, like The Dark Knight Returns.
I got interested in Daredevil just as Frank Miller began writing it, in about 1980. That was the point when it became dark, and the violence felt more brutal, and the Kingpin became a villain with depth. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daredevil_%28Marvel_...

For me the surprise was Ben Urich (the journalist).

We finished the series last night, and apart from at least one of the deaths thought the whole thing was great.
Can't wait for season 2.
Maybe spoiler tag it if you want, but which deaths? Can't wait for season 2.
There's a season 2 trailer on YouTube... http://youtu.be/y44m5739m-4
I'm pretty sure there's a brief glimpse of Electra.
I'm already excited.

He has some sort of echo location, which isn't fiction. Blind people can teach themselves this, like bats.
Aha, that explains it. Thanks for the education. ZesPak said:
While I find the Marvel villains in the movies generally very generic, the "villains" in this are a lot more interesting.
I think the big budget movie franchise needs to be more risk averse. They dare not stray too far from the proven formula because they have to make hundreds of millions of dollars per film, and keep the audience comming back for more. The blockbuster audience like a straight forward bad guy for the hero to triumph against. NetFlix has time to build a fully developed character who can be morally ambiguous, and therefore more interesting and nuanced.

I wonder is the plans for the Defenders show (bringing together DD, Jesica Jones, Luke Cage and Iron Fist) is being kicked into the long grass so they can focus on what is already a proven success?

Finished last night. It’s the best series so far.
But it also feels like an ending.
I can see this being the next casualty of Netflix vs the mouse.
It would be nice if DD could spin off into the MCU, but extremely unlikely.
I hadn’t thought of it like that, but it wouldn’t be a bad way to end it. Go out on a high, with the main characters having completed a satisfying arc. But it also feels like an ending.

That way we can look back on it with good memories, rather than many shows that drag on too long.

Ep3 was interesting, i'll spoiler in case people are stupid enough to read here before watching the latest episodes...
So do we think that's actual Frank the Punisher at the end? Or just someone cosplaying? Can't imagine why Frank would be working for Fisk/baddies after his character arc in his series.
Almost certainly one of the cops we’ve seen with the Punisher tattoo. I doubt the hit was ordered by Fisk, but he’s creating a political climate that makes them feel supported in their actions. Frank won’t be happy about it.

Yeah defo not him. What I didn't get is why they wouldn't have all realised the danger Hector would be in post trial [with or without the White Tiger suit on]. Matt wouldn't have just moved on, thinking all is fine?!
It looks to me like the series is setting up Matt for a fall due to his over confidence. Taunting the cop with his ‘fast hands’ jibe was funny, but unprofessional. Outing Hector was a successful move, but maybe not consulting him first wasn’t right. When he won the case, he was more interested in ‘celebrating’ with his new girlfriend than seeking protection for his client. Drabbesttunic said:

The best parts of this and the Netflix shows are when Murdock and Castle talk...
For anyone who hasn't seen this episode, FFWD until you see Frank, then FFWD to the end. The meeting between Matt and Frank was the glazing on the cherry on the icing on the cake.
