I've just watched the first season of 'Bosch' and it was excellent. It's based on 3 books by the author Michael Connelly and he's also a screenwriter and a producer on the show. The Lincoln Lawyer is probably his best know work.
Harry Bosch is a LA police Detective in the Hollywood division and it follows his investigation into the death of a young boy whose body is discovered in a shallow grave. It's really well written and acted and I can't recommend it highly enough.
The season is 10 episodes long and is available on Amazon via Amazon Prime subscription, or PAYG. You can get a month's free month's trial for Amazon Prime and it's worth it for this show alone.
Season 2 is about to start in March apparently.
Anyone else seen it?

I read the first Bosch novel first, which the TV series is based on.
I quite liked the TV series, I'd watch a second series for sure.
The actor playing Bosch got it just about right imo, but they changed some stuff around from the book, partly to bring it forward 40 years.

Yes, Titus Welliver, great name too. His real life son plays him as a boy.I quite liked the TV series, I'd watch a second series for sure.

They've brought it right up to the present day; There was even a reference to Ferguson, Missouri.
Great cast, even a couple of The Wire alumni for good measure.

Love Bosch - really good show.
Theres something about Lance Reddick in this series. Whenever someone leaves his office he has a way of turning his head that makes him look supremely pissed off no matter what the context.
Yes, I've just got a couple of episodes left to watch from Season 5. Top stuff. I don't even skip the intro sequence because that's good too.Theres something about Lance Reddick in this series. I know what you mean about Lance Reddick, but he has a real presence and helps make the show what it is I think.
"OK, that's the official version. How about we cut the bullst and you both tell me what really happened?!" [pissed off look]
Don't forget "Chicago PD" which is pretty good and in it's seventh season now. They're always stepping over pools of blood.
It occasionally has crossover episodes with its sister shows Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, Chicago Justice and even Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
BTW Author Robert Crais used to write for shows like Hill Street Blues, Miami Vice and Gagney & Lacey.

For books, I was always a big fan of Ed McBain novels, but they're not really the same as Bosch although the 'solving a crime' aspect is.
However, I think the poster who asked for anything similar was looking for TV programmes and, aside from the likes of Morse/Lewis/Endeavour it's hard to think of many detective TV series currently.
I always used to really enjoy Hill Street Blues (It was a long time ago, though!) and the Shield as someone mentioned is top notch if you've not seen it.

If you want to see Michael Chiklis play a good cop before he was the machiavellian "Vic Mackey" in the Shield, then check out The Commish, which is available on Amazon Prime. However, I think the poster who asked for anything similar was looking for TV programmes and, aside from the likes of Morse/Lewis/Endeavour it's hard to think of many detective TV series currently.

Titus Welliver was on the Rich Eisen show recently. He talks about Bosch, the new series, as well as his other work: Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy etc. He's a good impersonator too and does a great Al Pacino.

Bosch's hillside house is also in the Michael Mann movie "Heat". It's the home of "Eady", the girlfriend of Robert De Niro's character, Neil McCauley.

Titus Welliver said that it's tricky to get to, as there's a single narrow road that means they can only take one film truck up there at a time. They all love filming up there though. The interior was used for the Bosch pilot episode, but they've used a replica built on a soundstage for subsequent interior filming.

Pretty sure Bosch's Woodrow Wilson Drive house was paid for by a book/TV, written by him or about him - predating the start of the series.
Yes, the story is that Paramount made a movie based on one of Bosch's police cases and he used the money from that to buy the house.Gassing Station | TV, Film, Video Streaming & Radio | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
