After 15 years the cost of sky (according to mrs Hoonigan) has just got too much @ £54.00 a month.

Thought we could get a better deal so called them this evening to do some haggling but they didn't seem to care, kinda thought they would discount or go through a retention department but no, 30mins on the phone with my wife and it's gone frown

The problem I love discovery etc so will really miss it, are they likely to call us back and offer us a deal to stay (30 days left of billed month) or will they let us walk? We can't get virgin etc here so have limited options...

Doh!

This. Even with one of these, it still feels as though you're being ripped off with the amount of ste they put on Sky

Phone them back asking for this, tell them it is unfair they are offering such a deal to new customers but not rewarding your loyalty, explain that they could match that and you don't even need a new dish or box.
Great that looks a good starting point, thanks

Cancelled my Sky earlier in the year and bought a couple of Freesat boxes as Sky turn off the ability to record. The only thing I used to watch that I miss are the Discovery channels, but saving £60 per month made me get over it fairly quickly.
Good one, Mrs Hoonigan just read your post rolleyes

I cancelled sky tv approx 4 months ago, still use their ASDL/line rental service which comes in around £24~ a month. Not missed Sky at all, they have now sent a letter saying they are re-enabling the record/pause facility and some channels for the next 6 months, still not going to use it, freesat is good enough.
Sounds expensive to me wink

Result, Sky called me and they have re-activated my old sky account but with full package free for 5 months, just need to remember to cancel it in march. We now have Bagga's sky Q down stairs and the full HD package upstairs for no extra cost...

cancelled my full Sky and Broadband package (HD , multiroom , sports , movies , 2 boxes , unlimited fibre) currenty costing £114.99 pm ,and due to go up to £130.65 next month ,yesterday and am due to be disconnected on 6/2/17 - Sky didn't offer me anything to stay!!!

what should I do next?

I now have an offer of "50% off your Sky TV in I stay for another 12 months" in my Sky Service App!!!
Speak to Bagga on here.
Look into using your 50% off in conjunction with the cashback site, as I did.
Bagga seems to have gotten some amazing deals, wish I found him before I took ours out, although I'm not unhappy with my deal.
Indeed, cant praise Bagga enough, top man...

3 days to go.
Similar position here, with a just over a week to go. Sky customer for over 20yrs and no contact whatsoever - assumed they would have made some effort to retain my custom, so not sure how you others that have been getting calls/emails are more valuable to them?
Took about two weeks and then I got six moths of full package for free, just make sure you answer those withheld number phone calls...

Was there not a chap on here that could help arrange retention deals?

Need to look into it for my mum, her Sky bill is something daft like £90 a month and all she really watches are free to air channels plus a handful of Asian ones.
That was Bagga, helped quite a few of us but not sure if he’s still around or not or even still in the business??

So best part of 4 years after starting this thread I’ve gone and done it again...

The greedy buggers upped my bill again this week by another £5 to take it to a shade under £75 per month, it was £5 too far so I’ve cancelled.

Luckily this time around we have Virgin fibre to the door so instead of haggling and awaiting better offers I’ve signed up with them.

Got what I think is a pretty good deal which consists of 100mb broadband (previously had less than 10mb) , basic channels (big deal) plus, drama and documentaries and two V6 boxes. Also got free installation and free setup on both boxes so all in the total cost is a little under £45 per month for the first year and a decent saving over my previous Sky package as well as 10x faster internet.

I’m pleased though slightly worried what Virgin may attempt to do to my house to wire it, but they have arranged a pre-installation meeting to run through it and hopefully I’ll be able to cable it myself.

Does anyone know how the second box connects, is it just Cat5? And as we are fibre to the door does this mean it’s just a fibre into the router which then feeds the main box via cat5?

Cheers
